I have been renewing and porting my health insurance and vehicle insurance policies through PolicyBazaar for almost 5 years now. I have already ported my policies to different companies three times. In June, when my policy renewal was due, I approached PolicyBazaar for assistance in porting to Reliance. They filled out the forms and issued the policy. However, when I checked the wordings, I realized that the policy inception date mentioned was 2023. I had provided my previous policy copy for this renewal, but none of its details were reflected in the new policy.
When I spoke to the PolicyBazaar agent, they said it was fine and that everything was okay. Later, when I spoke to their senior manager, he understood the issue. I had already emailed them asking for a change in the inception date. As requested, I filled out and sent them several forms. After that, there was no further communication from them. When I emailed them, they would reply asking for 3 more days. If I tried calling, no one would pick up.
Finally, in August, I renewed my old policy(Aditya Birla) again as I had no other option. I then emailed PolicyBazaar asking them to cancel the Reliance policy since I didn’t need it anymore. That’s when they called and said they could change the inception date immediately. I told them it was not necessary and asked them to cancel the Reliance policy and process the refund. Realizing that they were not responding in any way, I filed a complaint with the consumer forum. Only after that did PolicyBazaar start calling me. They offered a refund but said they could only give half of it due to policy wordings. I told them that wouldn’t work and that I would proceed with the complaint. I asked them to just reply to the consumer forum. After a month of continuous emails and calls to the consumer forum(about 4 months in total), I finally received my refund today(with a ₹900 deduction). I decided to let that be.
What I'm saying is, I never realized PolicyBazaar had turned into such a fraudulent company. It’s only after looking at reviews on various forums that I understood their many deceptive practices. There have even been registered cases of them issuing duplicate policies. So, friends, if you are planning to take a new policy through PolicyBazaar, think twice. If you ever have to approach them in case of a problem, you might end up stuck.
If they owe you any money, file a complaint with the consumer forum. Action will be taken. They will try to deceive you in many ways, claiming deductions and so on, but stand your ground and tell them to deal with it.
