Pieces of April-heart warming!. Review on Pieces of April Movie

Pieces of April, an independent film made in 2003 was a great story. It starred Katie Holmes, one of the stars from Dawson's Creek. Her character was completely different from prudish Joey on Dawson's Creek.

Katie Holmes plays April, a young woman with great style, who lives away from home with her boyfriend, Bobby(Derek Luke) are planning a big thanksgiving dinner. Since April has been away from home and never really got along with her parents, decides to invite her family.

Her family are really really concerned about how the food will be. They even binge on donuts because they are scared. April's Mom, who had cancer and is dying, is played by the wonderful Patricia Clarkson. April has a sister named Beth, a brother, Timmy and a grandmother who is losing her memory.

As April is about to put the turkey into the pre-heated oven, she realizes that the oven is broken. She is desperate to get it cooked, as her boyfriend is trying to get some nice clothes for dinner. April finds a couple who are great chef's and the nice people let April use their oven for a couple hours, until 10:30 am. When the time arrives, April finds an creepy man(played on Will and Grace)who takes a leg off her turkey to feed to the dog. A funny moment is when April calls the police because someone has kidnapped her turkey. The police obviously don't care.

April finds a nice Asian family that let her cook the turkey in. April gives the children a history lesson. A scene flashes to Bobby, who gets in trouble with April's ex boyfriend and crew. They get into a fight.

As the Burns family pull into April's apartment, they are shocked. It's not a very nice area of town. They run into Bobby and think that he is trying to rob them, but he introduces himself as April's boyfriend. Bobby runs upstairs and tells April that their family are here. She is excited and goes downstairs, only to find her family not there at all. April is crushed and decides to feed the people that helped her(besides the creepy man) some of her hard worked dinner.

As The Burns family go to a homey family place for dinner, Joy begins to feel guilty so her and Timmy decide to hitch a ride on a motorcycle and go to dinner. As April answers her door she is shocked and surprised. Eventually the whole family shows up and they have a nice time. The family realises how hard April worked. Everyone has great time. The movie ends as Timmy takes a family photo of them.

This was a very cute movie! It had a very simple plot. It was definitely enjoyable! I definitely recommend it! The acting was pretty good. I liked it.

This movie is rated PG 13, and is directed by Peter Hedges. Maybe I should check out some more of his movies...
