Bought this player on 30th april 2005 for Rs. 4390/- no discount or any other offer attached from Opera House - A-1 Electronics. The model wasn't available anywhere when I went to buy it except here. There are no stocks with philips. This man had received his order 4 days back and this was the only piece remaining , hence I bought it.
On the box it says made in China however, on the back plate of the dvd its says developed and designed in Holland. In the box you can find a pair of 2AA batteries of philips itself - zinc carbon, so it lasts longer, a remote control and a audio and video cable.
Now coming to the features, well this player, as mentioned by others in their review can play virtually anything; mp3, divx dvd vcd, audio cd, mp3- you name it plays no problems at all.
The video as well as audio quality are exceptionally nice. The only thing you had wished was the skipping speed would be slightly more faster - currently it is only 8X, this I think is due to a slow processor used by philips of only 54 MHz. :(
The dealer unlocked the region code by using the 789 - 0- OK technique and it plays all sorts of dvds without any issue.
Another grouse is the display time remaining, which is not shown. This is a software issue which can be rectified with the newer set of firmware,which they release regularly.
Another advantage with this model is user upgradable firmware. Just download the software from their website under the support section burn it on a CD and run it in the player anfter a few minutes the CD will eject and then switch off the player for a minute and bang its done.
Unlike other people mentioning in their reviews about the software version being mentioned on the back, well honestly my peice is OCt/Nov 2004 model and no such number is mentioned. I went crazy finding it.
However, let me tell you I could not find any bugs with the factory installed program.
In a nutshell, this is most value for money dvd player, and should be on your shopping list if you plan to buy one. Till date, no player in this price range plays so many types of digital media formats.
The warranty is 1 year onsite and 90 day replacement.

P.S. Unlike mentioned by someone that his peice gave him a lot of troubles like dvd being hung or suddenly unable to read, well I haven't seen any of those issues. I have used this product for 12 hours continously and no probs whatsoever, with any dvds, divx movies and mp3's.
