Peranbu Movie Review: This film will move you and will teach you to be grateful for your life and quit complaining.
Peranbu is a film that will open your eyes to the pains of those who are differently abled and is sure to make you more inclusive as a person.
Pernabu talks about a father who single-handedly raises his daughter who has celebral palsy and the struggles he goes through because she is not able to understand his love and later the phase when she begins to awaken to her sexuality, is also portrayed with ease.
The movie stars Mammootty, Sadhana, Anjali, Livingstone, and P. Samuthirakani as actors and Ram is the director.
Pappa is a child who has celebral palsy and she is afraid to even let her father, Amudhavan, close to her. Her father’s unconditional love for his daughter and her inability to understand her father’s love will break your heart as the situation is explained perfectly in a series of shots.
Although, Amudhavan does everything to make his daughter feel comfortable nothing works until they move into a house that is close to nature. The film is then divided into 10 chapters which show the different aspects of nature and draws a similar connection to their father-daughter relationship as well. The film also talks about how female sexuality is affected by celebral palasy.
One thing that we learn from Amudhavan in Pernabu is to be non-judgmental and not to hold grudges. He does not hate his wife although she left him for another man. When he meets a transgender sex worker, Meera, he does not judge her as well. The movie also effectively conveys how it is difficult for Amudhavan to see his daughter growing up to her sexual desires.
All the performances in Pernabu are spectacular. Manmoothy plays the role of a man who is helpless and angry at society because they will not let his daughter be herself and accept her as she is, with ease. Sadhana also plays the role of Pappa very well.
The background music by Yuvan Shankar Raja is on point and Theni Easwar Merku’s cinematography is also brilliant.
Overall, Pernabu is a film that wakes you up to some of the harsh realities of life and teaches you to accept and flow with them.
