Not for the hypertensive- let me explain. Review on Patanjali Amla Candy

When I paid Rs 135  at the Patanjali shop and walked off, I was almost sure the taste would be sweet and tangy  plus crisp, just like any other amla candy I have used till date .

Once I opened the jar  by turning the cap anti-clockwise,  we have a  second silver seal  inside and  once that was ripped,   we  have  big black chunks of amla covered in sugar and spices including kala namak .

The moment I put the first chunk of amla in my mouth, I was kind of surprised in a negative way, The amla appeared very soggy, not crisp and it seemed to have been roasted overly . The aroma  was odd almost unpleasant . The taste felt mildly  sweet, excessively salty and somewhat bitter from over roasting with a burnt taste .

I looked again to see  if  the product had  expired but it was manufactured only in the month of  July 2015 and  the expiry date stood distant 1  year from then.

The 500 Gms Jar carried a statutory warning that it should be used  with care by the diabetics and its not for  the hypertensive .

I guess that's because of  the high content of black salt used, though the amla wasn't very sweet but this pack still uses  sugar and hence  the warning for  those with blood sugar issues .

I don't want to over talk you guys about the benefits of amla also called indian gooseberry . Which is a very good source of Vitamin C and a good source of phosphorus and calcium minerals .

Amla is considered good for  the eyes and the hair and for guys having piles and constipation .

Like all berries Amla is a superfood too and reverses free radical damage especially brought about by processed and junk food loved by almost everyone . It goes without saying its will keep your immune system bolstered .

But the taste,   the texture, the feel, especially the aroma is a real put off . I wish I had  not bought it . I wish I could return it .

I guess  the chyawanprash and amrit rasayan from patanjali which also use a lot of amla are many times better  but the latter uses copious amounts of sugar too.(72 gms per 100 gms)

After trying amla candy I would never experiment with another patanjali product- Bel candy .

Amla candy can be replaced with amla murabba or amla chyawanprash is  my advice or  opt for  some other brand .

This product does not appear to have a repeat value in terms of taste .

The adult dosage mentioned is 5 to 10 grams or 2  to 3  amla chunks .
