Yes I am back.. and those expecting a game review should hear David Dhawan brag about his new film being different.
Parineeta... a new Saif flick, a new heroine, a new period drama and a new avtaar for SanjubhaiMBBS. Can't miss it. Can ya?
Nine times out of ten, you see a love triangle and go ''Not again!''. Not this time. Even though it seems like one at the first glance, Parineeta is not a love triangle. It is a love story. Lolita (Vidya Balan) is in love with his childhood friend and neighbour. In comes Girish (Sanjay Dutt), and the quintessential complexities arise. Girish saves Lolita's family from Saif's scheming father.

If you liked Devdas for great acting performances, you will like this even better. Saif sparkles with an intense portrayal of a young man whose desigantion is ''Inhe music se bahut pyaar hai.'' Parineeta will go down as one of Saif's best performances. Sanjay Dutt as the charming industrialist has done a good job at emotional discourses. Even though his role is limited in terms of screen time and characterisation, he displays maturity and skill in his acting. Balan does a great job for an actress on debut and yes, she does look gorgeous with a generous dose of sheer simplicity. Dia Mirza underperforms greatly and is reduced to nothing both by the script and more importantly by her own acting. The larger than life, grandeur settings of Devdas were a flaw of the movie and there has been a definite effort to avoid this folly in Parineeta.
The songs are good too especially Raat hamaari to... and Piyu bole. They might not rival Devdas but in any case are well above what we usually get to hear these days. All songs are greatly hummable and with reasonably good https://lyrics. Rekha's item numbers is being liked by many though I would call it above average at best.
The charming 60s feel of the movie imparts it another dimension altogether even though the ''time-machine'' effect is absent. Entire movie has a rather serene and calm feel to it - alomost throughout given away only by one of the most amateurish and hysterical endings you will see. I do not know what prompted the director to do what he did but Saif Ali Khan wrenching a heavy porcelain fountain out of the ground and using it to break a wall (between his and Balan's houses) just won't do. Why on earth did he not use the gates? Why didn't Lolita tell him that she did not marry Girish while he was beating the bejesus out of her with a mouthful of obscenities? There are more questions to be asked and the movie does have its fair share of pitfalls but overall a good watch especially if you want to avoid the 'D's and the 'BB's.
