Critic’s Comments
One of the few Sleeper Hits, this is a movie with a wafer thin plot, but due to heavy word of mouth publicity has been one of the biggest hits of the year. The movie is made on the lines of such mock-documentary horror films like The Blair Witch Project and Cloverfield. The movie is, in my humble opinion, boring and its only towards the last 10 minutes that one gets the shock. The climax is worth the movie ticket. I recommend, this is a one time watch and only to be seen in theatre in a night show. But only for the climax.
Psst –
1) The movie ending was conceived by Steven Spielberg.
2) The movie was released by Paramount studios. However the studio logo does not appear in the start or during the end credits. The main reason was a fall out with Spielberg during the making.
3) The movie was made on a budget of $15000 and grossed over $125 million worldwide.
4) The movie was filmed in the director's house in just 10 days and the actors were reportedly paid $500 each for their roles.
5) As a part of the publicity campaign, the promoters decided to film the audience reactions in cinema halls while watching the movie.
6) The director got the idea of the movie from a personal experience. When he was sleeping in the night, once, a box of detergent fell off the shelf on its own. The director found this weird because it was too far of the edge to fall on its own.
Quotes :-

2) "You think he'd be able to predict that the traffic is going to be bad."
