Cleansing Action:

As I have talked about before there are a couple of brands of dishwashing detergent that I use for the dishwasher. I certainly like a brand that is going to get the job done! I have tried the expensive ones and the store brands, which are usually cheaper than most and work well. And I have tried those that fall in price between the expensive brand and store brands. Palmolive® Gel Dishwasher Detergent is one of those that fall in between that price line. I will spend just a little more on Palmolive than the store brand.

The Product

Palmolive® Gel Dishwasher Detergent is one of the many Palmolive products that I use regularly. My favorite is the Spring Blossom®. This product always gives my dishes a nice shine that actually makes them sparkle. And there is never any residue left behind that so many other detergents leave. I don’t know about you all but I don’t like spotty dishes or soapy film left behind. It is like using a soap on your body that leaves that yucky feeling behind. And I certainly don’t want that on my dishes!

I will sometimes use this product to treat stubborn stains before putting into the dishwasher. I will run some warm water in the sink and put just a little bit of the detergent in the water. I have found that this gel will do a fine job as well as other cleaners. You can also leave this cleaner on the dishes or pots and pans and not have to worry about your dishwasher bubbling over. That is a good thing. It is rather funny and aggravating at the same time when the dishwasher bubbles over when the children put the wrong cleaning product in it. It reminds me of that episode of the Brady Bunch! LOL!

I have found that Palmolive® Gel Dishwashing Detergent really works well on those hard, stubborn food stains. I know this first hand because I sometimes I forget to rinse the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher, which I always try to do just in case. But with this product I don’t seem to have that problem with the dishes not coming clean. Even, dried eggs (the ones that have been fried to eat with your grits) come off without rinsing first.

However, I will also use my other dishwashing soaps or other cleaners sometimes for those really stubborn stains that are baked on because I think they do a better job for those type of food stains for a pre soak or pre scrub before the dishwasher. Sometimes I just have to let a dish soak little bit. You cooks understand that.

This product cuts through the dirt and grime left on dishes after eating with no problems what so ever and I really love that. I like taking out the dishes after a wash and seeing them all clean and shiny.

To Use

Certainly you should load your dishwasher first. Duh! And make sure that you never block any of the sprayers. When my children fill the dishwasher I always check behind them to make sure they have not blocked the sprayers.

You then need to fill your cups with detergent and make sure that you close the little door for the second wash, if your dishwasher offers one. I know sometimes I forget to close my little door and when the second wash starts, there is no detergent to be used but, thank goodness it doesn’t really matter sometimes because sometimes it was a small load of dishes.

Now, when I load my silverware I make sure that the knives go point first in what I call the knife holders. There are 2 small rack type brackets in my silverware basket that I use for the knives.

Cautions and Ingredients

From the container: “avoid contact with mouth, eyes and skin. Keep this and all cleaning products out of reach of children.”

The product does contain chlorine bleach and silicate salts. You are not to use this product for hand washing your dishes. (I must say here that when I use it in the sink as mentioned above it is just for stubborn stains, mostly on the bottom of the pots. The ones caused from uses on the stove. But I never use this product to hand wash my dishes and the put into the dish drain and put away. The hot water from the dishwasher does a much better job of cleaning and rinsing than I can do. Besides this type of product has different chemicals that only work well with the hot water in a dishwasher as opposed to normal dish soaps or cleaning products that I use in the sink.) Nor should you ever mix it with ammonia or other cleaning products. You could cause some very serious fumes that may be harmful to you.

Certainly if one of the children were to swallow this product have them drink a glass of water and call their doctor or the poison control center in your area. The same for yourself. It is advised not to induce vomiting.

If the product splashes into your eyes rinse with water. And the same for skin contact.

Sounds really awful don’t it. But I assure you that with any cleaning product you will find these precautions. And I assure you that this product cleans my dishes well. I am very pleased with it.

Palmolive® Gel Detergent contains an average of 1.6% of phosphorus in the form of phosphate.

How I feel

Palmolive® is one of my favorite products. In fact, I love all of their products. They always cost less. The size I buy is the 4lb bottle and it cost around 2.40 at my local Wal Mart. I love the handle on the bottle because it makes it easier to hold and to use. The flip up cap is always easy to use as well and the detergent never gets stuck while pouring out.

The bottles come in various colors to match the various scents. As mentioned earlier my favorite scent is the Spring Blossom® because I think it smells the best. It is a floral type smell but not to strong. In fact, when I use my dishwasher with this product I can actually smell it while in use. It makes my kitchen smell really good. Like flowers. You can also choose Lemon Grove, which comes in a yellow container or Baking Soda Fresh Scent, which comes in a blue container.

I also like the gels better because they are easier for my children to use. With the powders the children seem to have a war of some kind and get powder everywhere but in the dishwasher. At least is seems so! With the gels, I don’t have that problem. I also think that the gels clean better than the powders. But that may be just me. Powders can be good and sometimes they are cheaper than gels, but they can also leave a residue behind and I don’t like that. Once at washing dishes is enough for me per day.

I also like the fact that I don’t have to wipe off spots from the glasses and silverware with Palmolive® Gel Dishwashing Detergent. I am always impressed by this fact. With some of the other brands, the more expensive ones that claim that this will not happen, it does and I have to wipe dishes clean. Don’t pay 4 or 5 dollars for the expensive brands when you can pay around 2.50 for a name brand that will do the same, if not better job.

I hope that this has helped in come kind of way.

God Bless!
