I bought a Fiat Palio EL PS in June 2002 after a lot of research into the various models available in the Small Car segment. It had been launched just 4-6 months before and the other small cars in the market did not excite me.
I have had no reason to complain at all except the mileage that the car gives and the small boot-space that comes with a hatchback ( I was fully aware and accepted the latter problem before I bought the car)
It is smooth, has a great pickup even with the AC on fall blast ( really not needed as it is great even on minimum in the middle of a hot summer day) and takes the Mumbai potholes with aplomb and without making me feel like I am on the lunar surface.
It is roomy, comfortable for 3 passengers at the back and the interiors while not totally slick, are not tacky either.
The aftersales service is good although the Service centre is in the centre of slums in Worli.
I am a little disappointed with the mileage; it is between 8.5-9 km/lit in the city and the maximum it has given me even on the Pune expressway is 10km/lit. But boy, is it stable even at 120 kmph on the expressway- it's rock steady !!!!!. I can't say the same for the Santro, Zen or the Wagon R and I have driven them all on the expressway; they start shaking and wobbling at 100 kmph.
A few of my friends also have the Palio and I have heard no complaints.
