Story:I had no idea that this movie's storyline was inspired from a movie called'Derailed'. I haven't seen the original. Bollywood’s recent flop ‘The Train’ also follows the same story line. I think this Tamil version is surely well adapted to the Indian soceity.
Venkatesh works as a medical representative. He is contended with his middle class life and monotonous job, as his wife Kalyani and Son Nanda fill his life with happiness. Troubles begin after Nanda is diagnosed with Juvenile diabetes. The shock affects Kalyani in a negative way. She dedicates all her time to take care of Nanda. Moreover, her son's ailment takes the joy out of her life. Slowly, all the fun Venkatesh once treasured is lost. Days become months and months become years, but his wife's depression continues. It is then that Venkatesh's gaze falls on a Priya a fellow passenger in his usual commuter train.
Like Venkatesh, Priya is bored with her marital life. Similarities bring them together. What begins as a casual friendship slowly changes to a nameless relationship. Soon, the duo takes the first step to convert the nameless in to the illicit. They book a room in a hotel. The devil enters in the form of a knock in the door. Lawrence a hooligan who breaks in to steal money discovers the illicit nature of the relationship between Priya and Venkatesh. He begins to use the dirty secret to his maximum advantage. First, the pervert brutally rapes Geetha. Then, through a series of menacing phone calls and encounters, he mercilessly rips off all the money from Venkatesh.
After the money saved for his son's treatment is lost, Venkatesh confesses the truth to Kalyani. Angered Kalyani leaves the house. Venkatesh is devasted. The story takes a drastic turn when Venkatesh discovers the real nature of Priya. Priya called Geetha and Lawrence are allies and fellow conspirators acting their part in a real life drama enacted to entrap Venkatesh. Then, Venkatesh like a normal hero proceeds to defeat Lawrence and his gang to retrieve his money and lost dignity.
Performances:After being stereotyped as villager and village patriarch in movies like'Nattamai', 'Mayee', 'Natpukkaaga' and several others, Sarath kumar has finally landed up in a role that required acting skills. It’s difficult to associate a person with a physique like Sarath's in anything other than with action hero type roles. However, in his own way, he excels in his role of a middle class medical rep, by enacting every shades of the character with easy finesse. Andrea though beautiful is a bit irritating. She has nothing much to do than romance the hero in songs and appear glum otherwise.
The performance from Jyothika is one of her best. It’s amazing to note that this once boisterous girl, who was unintentionally comical in'Kushi', has finally turned a fine actress mature enough to handle the role of a deceptive seductress. She uses a casual stare from her large and beautiful khol lined eyes to attract the unsuspecting hero. And lastly, the villain played by Milind Soman. A day's stubble and hair falling all over the face create the rugged look. This coupled with the raw body language of a brute compensate the wooden face and blank expressions.
Gautam's Touch: After the romantic'Minnale', Gautom Menon shocked us all with the macho stuff in'Kaaka Kaaka' and'Veittaiaddu Velaiyadu'. With'Pachai Kili Muthu Charam' the shock element is gone. Gautam's the style of direction is distinctly identifiable to anyone who had watched his previous movies. The presence of a powerful villain, the camera angles, the voiceover, the tone of dialogue delivery . everything seems familiar. May be Guatam is trying to create a trademark for himself like the way great directors like Mani Ratnam, Barathi Raja, Shankar, RGV and K Balachander have done in the past. However, the Gautom's style is fast becoming stale, predictable and irritating. Hope he recognizes this and attempts to infuse something fresh in to his style of direction.
Conlcusion:PKMC like other Gautom's ventures has a touch of sophistication. In comparison with the usual masala flicks, it’s a better watch. It has its interesting moments. Overall it’s a dark film with a good blend of romance, deception and violence.
