Outlook Traveler Weekend breaks from Chennai An avid travel buff posted near to Chennai and with the holidays coming up I wanted to check up the options available for a short holiday. Off I went to the nearby snazzy bookstore full of silent serious looking blokes poring over large tomes. I asked for a road map and a guide book and got landed with this book which the magazine claims gives you the all lowdown on holiday sites near to Chennai. What I got is a collection of short essays on various places in south India.
Most of the writing is biased and just glorifies the place with no space given to judging the negative points of a place. A lot of writing is crammed into the book by people who love the sound of their own voice and thoughts and we end up paying for them to indulge in their fancy. The book is for the traveler who has got plenty of moolah and time and is not really of this country and is not for us middle class guys so rooted in this land.
Most of the writing is over the top and too saccharine and does not really discuss the problems one could face. It is better to depend on the internet to get to know the real picture. © Krish
