This is my first review on this site and felt that it would be great to start off with a product which I have owned for over 4 years and would not mind keeping it for a lifetime!
This journey began 4 years back when we were looking out for a mid sizer in the 6-7 lakh range. After numerous rounds to all dealers of all auto companies we finally selected the Opel Corsa 1.6 GLS.
The main reasons for selecting the Corsa were SAFETY, BRAND and the QUALITY which all other models lacked. Even as of date, I believe that the Corsa is far safer than any other car in the market. Though the car looks small, you are in for a surprise when you come in. For a 6 footer like me, it has great driving position. The seats, on the harder side, are great for long journeys as it gives it that firmness to all your body parts. The back seats are also great and can fit in 3 adults easly without any problems and no leg space problems, though some may complain of some crampness for long journeys. BOOT SPACE is also on the higher size and can hold loads of luggage even for long visits. THE CAR IS ROCK STEADY and never loses its grip from the road.
SUSPENSIONS ARE BEST IN ITS CLASS AND YOU NEVER FEEL THE DUG UP ROADS. IT GLIDES!
The best part is its cooling device I believe they sourced it from Antartica! It CHILLS! Most of the people highly appreciate the cooling part of this machine and even in the Gujarat heat of over 44+ COOLING IS SUPERB.
Mileage is the next concern for all buyers given the ever increasing petrol prices and you will be surprised that this HEAVY machine is LIGHT on petrol. We have recorded 15+ KMPL (with AC) on all our highway rounds and got a amazing 19+ in one of their Mileage challenges(though this figure is without AC). In the city we have recorded around 12 with AC on most of our rounds. So its better that most of the lighter vehicles you would go in.
Maintainance part is even more surprising. Many told us that OPEL means COSTLY MAINTAINANCE and COSTLY PARTS. But in the past 4 years the maintainance has been around 2000 per year which is the service part, oil and filter changes. NO PARTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND MAINTAINANCE OTHER THAN SERVICING HAS BEEN A BIG ZERO!
Saftey features are enormous starting with the dead lock facility, all locks open in case of any accident, and so on,
PAINT JOB AND THE MATERIALS USED CAN BE RATED 5STAR and you can feel the quality once you are into it.
After going to all the positives you wonder if this car has any shortcomings at all. Yes there is one. The gearshif especially putting the car into GEAR 2 can be improved with.
So associate with a CORSA and you will soon that their line''FEEL THE DIFFERENCE. THE DIFFERENCE IS GERMAN ENGINEERING'' is correct to the last word. I feel that this car has been highly underrated and no proper marketing has been done, else these japanese guys would have to do some real serious thinking about their toys on the Indian soil. After seeing our car, around 4-5 people bought the CORSA, because even they did not know this car was soooooooooo good!
