Yet again she’s put out an album consisting of a couple of hit tunes and a load of other songs that you probably won’t ever remember the name of unless you’re a die-hard Britney fan.
The album kicks off with ‘Oops! I did it again’, followed by ‘Stronger’. Both tracks are OK, but they seem better than they really are. The videos make these songs hits. They need the ‘eye candy’ that is Britney to sell them. Released by anyone else and they may never be heard.
After that…., well I can remember that track 4 is ‘Satisfaction’, but that’s not because I like the track. I’m just glad I’m not a fan of the Rolling Stones. Pick any other track and it’s OK, but it feels the same as the one before and the one after. All the songs are so formulated, written by robots for robots. I can’t tell whether the instruments are played by computers or musicians and that’s the big problem.
Britney might be able to sing, but she seems to have surrounded herself with people who have given her very mediocre material to work with. This is evident in the number of gimmicks used to try and make the album more interesting. She needs to find some real musicians to work with, eventually her teenage admirers will grow up and demand more, I hope.
If you’re a teenage fan then you might like it, but for those of you who know better, don’t buy this expecting a classic album. I wanted to like this, but I don’t. It will go back in the rack to gather dust. I’m off to listen to Sade’s new album.
