Hello Readers / Reviewers. We bought this TV 5 years back. What is now being sold as Poison Theater was sold as KY Theater 5 years back. No idea what KY stands for, but the subwoofer on the head of the TV carries the label KY Bass Blaster.
Let me bring you the USP of the TV when we bought it.
1250 W PMPO - (Always misleading the consumers. The correct way to rate the speaker ouput is in RMS).
SRS Circle Surround
PIP - Picture in Picture
Satellite Speakers
10 way speaker system
Now moving on to the review. Intially when we planned to replace our old BPL 21 FST Colour television which was in the 10th year of service, we thought of SONY and ONIDA. SONY products though worth the money, is always priced more than the competitors. Some times I felt they are exhorbitantly priced. So we decided to go for ONIDA and the only model which struck us was this KY Theater model as it was newly launched in the market and we could take pride assuming the neighbours would ENVY us for the sound effects. True it lived up to the expectation.
10 way speaker system - 2 set of speakers on each of satellites(4) + 2 set of speakers on either side of the TV panel (4) + 2 Speakers on the Bass Blaster (2) making it an 10 way speaker system. Now unless & until there is an audio circuit incorporated in the system, there is no point how many speakers the TV has. The output would be the same. This system has SRS Circle Surround to complement the 10 Way speaker system.
Basically SRS Circle Surround is same as the Dolby Prologic II & DTS Neo:6. It converts any 2 channel stereo to a 5.1 like surround sound. So any program that you watch on this system, you are sure to be entertained because of the sound effect. There is an option in he remote to switch between mono & surround. It is really good.
Hook the satellite speakers behind your seating position on the wall and you can thoroughly enjoy the movies from DVD/TV.
PIP - this is a nice feature when the cricket fever is on. You can watch you regional programs in 3/4 of the screen and the cricket match in 1/4 of the screen or vice versa.
Apart from the above features, this system is as good as any other system. Picture quality is also good. We had a few problems with the woofer and replaced couple of time during the warranty period which I feel is due to lack of an amplifier in the system.
When connected to a DVD player and watching movies, the surround works really good. Good bet incase someone donesn't have a Home Theater system.
When there was a fault with the system, we would call up the customer care center, and the techinician responds to your request with in the agreed time.
Itz been 5 long years with this product and am certainly happy with it.
I recommend this product for who can't spend big bucks on the stand alone Home Theater sets which cost a bomb. This will satisfy your thirst for watching movies on a surround environment with simple setup.
Thank You
Elango
