So OSO, does Biggest Film of the year lives upto the expectations??? Lets get straight to the Verdict, Its a fantastic masala movie.
OSO is a brilliant, intelligent, outrageously hilarious and an outstanding Entertainer. Its a film that is made by people who Love films and that reflects in each and every frame of OSO. Its a film that is a tribute to the kind of films I have grown up on. The whole incarnation drama is just a package but the real aim of making this film is to boast of the love the makers have for the Film industry and basically Cinema. Pure, unpretentious , hardcore Cinema. Story is just a formality in OSO.
The first half is the work of a genius. The whole 70's aura has been created soo meticulously that , the experience is overwhelming but at the same time side splitting. The second half is dull compared to the first half but there is enough entertainment to hold the audience's interest. Also the film drags when it starts taking its story too seriously. The whole track of SRK-Arjun and deepika in the second half is just okay. But again the Climax twist(ala Madhumati) is excellent and marks the brilliance of the writers.
There are soo many scenes which are soo good that one will laugh for days after seeing OSO, remembering them.
The whole Quick Gun Murugan "Mind it" act is one of the greatest comical acts ever by an actor. Its a scene that has to be seen to be believed. SRK will be remembered
The scene after Om saves Deepika from fire and she comes to meet him. And SRK wants to say something to her but he cant so he just amkes faces. Another hilariously directed and acted scene.
The "Bhaago" scene.
The Manoj kumar Duplicate Scene, just Classic. pure genius.
The OTT Mother son interaction between SRK and Kirron kher, SRK is marvellous and Kirron kher just tooo good.
The Mohabbatman scene, where SRK comments about his underwear.
The Apahij lover scene, I was falling off my seat seeing SRK as that blind, dumb, deaf and handicapped Lover. SRK's comic timing is superb.
The whole FF award show, Akki's nomination was the best, Abhishek rocked and SRK was again too good. One of the highlights of the second half.
Only two serious scenes appealed me, OM and Shanti's death scene.
The Climax, when the twist happens.
Farah is a director of substance, she is a mind blowing director and her Sense of humor rocks. She isnt a great writer but she is a great director. Even MHN sucked whenever it tried to become serious. Even OSO falls flat most of the times when the actual story is executed. But thats not the essence of OSO. OSO is a film about Bollywood and when Farah ventures into that area , OSO is Superb. Excellent dialogues, Hilarious situations and Farah's wicked knowledge about films make OSO an entertainer of a life time.
Technically the film is spot on. Special mention to the SFX team, they desrve kudos for the Dhoom tana song. Music is rocking. Music by vishal sekhar is superb in both the half. Cinematography and editing is fantastic.
Deepika padukone is Great and adds to the film's success in totality. I loved her in the last scene. Shreyas is good and so is Arjun.
Kirron Kher gets one of the best roles of her life and she does great. Others did well.
Coming to the Star of the show, Shah Rukh Khan. To say he is Great, outstanding or out of this world is saying nothing. He is soo good that he single handedly takes OSO to heights unattainable. Esp as Om Prakash mahija, SRK delivers a career defining performance. No actor in india, including Amitabh bachchan, could have even think of even attempting such role, forget about enacting it with soo much conviction. Its one of the best roles ever written for SRK. He is soo likeable and adorable, inspite of being such a ham. Hamming is a part of OM and thats what makes Makhija soo special and intersting.Makhija makes u laugh hysterically and also in a scene or two makes your eyes wet. Its one of the whackiest performances by an actor ever. SRK as OM kapoor in post interval is good but pales in front of Om Prakash makhija. Just because there isnt enough meat to his character. Still he is good but not great.
SRK is a brave actor, being the greatest star of this country, he takes potshots at himself.
SRK in one of the scenes says, "OverActing toh mere Khaandaan mein hai."
or the "Phir Bhi dil hai NRI" and "Main Bhi hoon na" nominations.
And thats what makes him more charming. No other actor has the courage to do so.
As taranĀ aadarsh says, On the whole OSO is a film that will entertain you like nuthing else this year. Yes it drags when it tries to be serious but one can pardon it because it also makes us laugh soo much, a neva before in recent times. Its a Classic in parts but overall its Superb.
Watch it, you will have a blast of your life. This Diwali deserves OSO.
