Back on MouthShut after 4 long years! Feels good to be back with the new avatar here.
So here comes the beast from Nokia - the Lumia 820. This review is based on hands on experience of 6 months using this mobile. Starting with the looks - one word 'dazzling'. I got the red piece, after a lot of efforts and I will tell you, it looks simply marvelous. Its slim, rounded edges, bit on a heavier side, but the look and feel is simply superb. You just hold it in your hand and you simply want to keep holding it.
Coming to the OS, a lot of ifs and buts are raised by people when it comes to Windows OS. My word, windows 8 is stupendous. Absolutely no lag and buttery touch added to it the new concept of tiles to it really is refreshing. I have used some of my friends' android pieces. I found windows a lot better. You have to use it once to believe it! The downside is you may say the number of application. But seriously how many application will you install in your phone at a time? The windows store has 1lac+ apps and I feel that those are enough.
Lets come to the features now. You need to have a Microsoft account at first to start using this. With that account, all your emails will be synced to your outlook which comes pre installed. You may also pull other mails into the same outlook account, which is a feature I liked very much. MS office comes pre installed, so creating word documents, excels and presentations is damn easy, literally you can do this all on the go. Skpe comes pre installed so you can do video callings making use of the front vga camera.
Camera - Carl ZEISS 8.7 mega pixel, what else do you want? I have been able to take some great photos in dim light as well as some real bright photos with vibrant colors in the day. The camera has a lot of inbuilt features. The smart shoot comes pre installed which will take 5-6 shots and you can select the best shot. One of the best cam application is cinemograph. With this you can take animated photos! Likewise, you can take a photo and select a particular part in that photo to animate it. This basically captures the frames for around 5 seconds and then you can select only a particular frame to be animated.
Nokia drive comes pre installed which shows you the exact precise location and the destination with voice assist. Also you can see the speed and the virtual time when you will reach the destination.
Then comes the Nokia music. And this feature has really bowled me over. You want a song in your phone, just go to Music, search for that song and it will be downloaded. Hardly 800kb - 1 mb songs and sound quality is a s good as the original ones! The Nokia Music Subscription is free for 1st year. X-box, yes you can synchronize your x-box account here and you will find some great games on the store, However here there can be some improvement as many games are paid, but still you will find enough on the store to fulfill your gaming appetite.
There is no lag at all while you are playing the games, thanks to the dual core 1.5 ghz krait processor and 1 gb ram. Screen is 4.3' AMOLED, 8gb internal and expandable upto 64gb. Bluetooth transfer is also present, which was not in earlier versions. Battery could have been a little better. But this phone can still last up to a day on considerable usage.
All in all - A great piece. Go for it!
