Well as far a cellphones go, this one is perfect as it’s of a decent size and the keypad is useable unlike the Nokia 7210 and others. For all its Good points and Useless features VISIT nokia.com, what u get in my review is a bunch of demerits which is not there in Nokia.com
Got this phone for my dad, so the choice was between the 7210 and 6610. Didn’t want my dad grumbling at the crazy keypad of the 7210, so settled down with the 6610.
The phone is perfect with a decent colour screen (so what – all phones have them now), something known as Java technology (not used it so far), but take the phone down to the BPL mobile gallery and they will put in a couple of real good games(so they say) for Rs.50 bucks. The phone has got a executive look and has very sober colours. So it doesn’t look too brash on my not so young dad. Has that completely useless feature for me called WAP. One feature which all phones should have is Tri-Band. As my 8310 is Dual Band, I have to use the 6610 when going to the States and Canada. Another critical feature in this is the PC suite. Haven’t used it yet but the ability to take a backup of all the phone numbers from the phone to the PC is priceless. This I say is important cause once my 8310 software packed up on me and I lost all my 300+ numbers stored in the phone. SO BACK UP. An investment in an USB-IrDA is worth to take backup.
Well now for the demerits.
<1>. First of all the power switch is way too small. Had to change my protective cover just to access this super small button. Why do they make the power button the same height as the phone. Only women or guys with nails can switch it off/on
- Being a color screen, when the phone is not in use, the screen is Black and one can’t see anything on the screen. This in my opinion is important as one can’t see if he/she has received any messages or missed any calls (and now in B’bay which Area he/she is) without Switching the phone on or by pressing any button to turn the screen on. BIG PROBLEM.
3.The headphones are great and the FM reception gives you great stereo sound, but the connector to the phone is not universal. This is NOKIA’s problem in all phones. Any headphone won’t fit into their phones. Not only that, the headphones from my 8310 won’t fit into the 6610. So they are also not compatible within their own company. What is frustrating for me is that I’ve to carry TWO sets of headphones – one for my MP3 cum PDA and the other for the phone. Very irritating.
4.Only one game comes bundled. No choice when u are bored except to buy more games. Besides I don’t know how much memory will remaining with a another game added along with the ringtones and images.
5.Hate the polyphonic ringtones. My opinion. I know everybody raves about it. Sounds like a really bad radio.
6.Good feature of the phone is it has a inbuiltspeaker to play your radio loud. The problem is, this works ONLY WHEN the headphone is connected. Might have been designed by someone really stupid in NOKIA. Why would I need to play on the speaker (not that good sound – remember that bad radio sound) when I have a set of those specific headphones.
7.No Bluetooth. Although the technology hasn’t picked up but who knows maybe in a couple of months my equipment would be Bluetooth enabled and then I’ll have to buy a new phone.
- No MP3 player. Now this is asking for too much, but no harm. If you can have radio why not a mp3 player cause that is the way music is going. Ask any Music Company and they will beat u up and then tell you “yes”
Well am I picky or what but I’m sure you can live with the phone without encountering my problems cause it’s a great phone and its pretty difficult to keep me happy.
11th Aug, 2004 - Save some money and go in for the Nokia 6220. Much better in every way.
