*Why I bought this phone?

No other go.I've to have a mobile phone.Read the story below.

It was a rainy day at Sharjah(Surprising!). Life was thrown out of gear in the twin cities of Sharjah and Dubai. People left stranded on the roads, left waiting on what looked like an endless traffic jam, schools closed, people not able to reach airport on time etc etc. I was lucky not to get caught in any of those. Because I stayed and worked in Sharjah, I can afford to take a walk from my office to home.

So I was happy about the fact that the rain and the traffic jam had very little impact on me, started walking towards my home(the office closed early at 3 pm in the afternoon), humming my favourite song and enjoying the drizzles, with my jerkin on, saying to myself "ha http://www.what a beautiful day."

That joy was shortlived.

One wrong footing on a muddy platform made me slip a little and out of balance, I managed not to slip, but not my phone.

My beloved cell phone Sony Ericsson w200i(I have written a revu on that too.) slipped out of my shirt pocket and hit the road with a bang.trshhhhhhhhhhhh.promptly got crushed to pieces by a moving four wheeler, leaving me no time to react or retrieve it. It was death on the spot for my w200i:-(

What a fateful day?!? I thought to myself. It was a real pain to see that happen, though it was only a cell phone.

Couple of days went by without much incidents. Now suddenly left without a cellphone in my hands, I felt as If Im in no man's land.or felt completely isolated from this world. Luckily I remembered few of my important contacts and some stored in my wife's mobile. (Now, What would you do in this case? Both the cell and sim got damaged, where would you look for your contacts? hmm something really to think about.so better memorise few important contact numbers.)

I got a new sim from etisalat, my service provider and got back the same mobile number. Ooophhhh.half the problem solved. Now I need a cell phone to use the sim card.

So my search for a new phone started.Went to couple of malls in Sharjah and did some basic analysis.Though, Im not a gadget freek. I was really tempted to go for some higher-end models. But luckily my senses came good and I decided to stick to a very basic model for the time being for few reasons mentioned below.

  1. My son(now 15 months old), thinks his dad's cell phone is just another toy to play with and when he's bored of it, pppat.throw it off.

  2. I realised, that Im not using any other features like music player, FM, MMS etc of my mobile, other than calling and smsng.

  3. Really scared to buy a costly handset again, after seeing the death of my beloved mobile.

So, the best option is to go for a basic model.

Straight away, I decided to go for Nokia, for a very simple reason that, the accessories are most commonly available, and even if I forget to recharge the phone, its easy to get hold of one nokia charger.(Anyway that very purpose was not solved, as the charger slot in this phone is slightly thinner and different from the other nokia model!?!:-( How stupid, I did not notice that at the time of buying)

*Features:

If I list out the features of this phone, I may sound like a person from the stone age.but it has got all the essential features for a basic cell phone, like phone book, customizable right key, flash ligt(really a very good feature and powerful too),  alarm clock, repeat alarm etc.

The best thing, I liked is the screen saver. With the big  time and date display and summary of unread messages and missed calls, gives you much required details before unlocking the cell.

Battery life is good. I charged only once so far(i.e 3 days back), for about 15 mins and still got a good 75% of the battery power left. The reception and the sound quality is pretty good.

The look of the phone is very decent, with black and grey combination, it doesn't really look very cheap. Nicely shaped and feels good when you hold it in your hands.

The cost of the phone Rs.1500 approx(I bought it for 147 dhirams), I think is very reasonable. Its only as costly as a Cordless phone.

*Cons:

The display area is very small with old fashioned menus scrolling horizontally.

Otherwise I really can't see any other cons so far.

Conclusion

Overall, Im happy that this phone has got me back on track and keeps me linked with my friends and family.

I would recommend it for those looking for a cheap phone for whatever the reasons may be.
