NIKON COOLPIX L1
I had busted my expensive Sony Digital Handy movie camera on my very first motorbike ride out to Karwar, on my Bajaj Avenger. The Avenger avengedmy digi handy cam. I was so sad and horrified! My wife cried.
I have pasted my Nikon camera photo links in the comments page. Have also posted a review on this Sony digicam here on MS.
Without wasting time, I picked up a Nikon Coolpix L1 digital camera at Mumbai thanks to lot of help from a fellow MS writer, who is pretty hot on cameras.
Since then I never looked back.
What the Nikon did for me
The Nikon Coolpix L1 is an economy model digital camera, designed for the aam junta, 6.2 mega pix, and 5x digital zoom. In the grey market I paid Rs 12,000/-, add another Rs 1,500/- for 512 MB memory stick. With a receipt, warranty and all you pay some Rs 19,000/-. For technical details and features, go to https://nikon.com or check out the website of JJ Mehta, Dadar, Mumbai.
What I love about Nikon Coolpix
It’s the ease of handling, portability and compactness. The picture results are amazingly good in the hands of an amature. Besides, unlike my old Pentax SLR (which did wonders for me), where money is wasted on film rolls and developing and printing, here I can take some 200 odd pics at random and simply discard the mediocre ones at no cost to me.
For example, I did a theme on “Headlights On”. That is, on a dark night I used the headlight of my motorcycle to capture some pics. Out of 63 shots, just 6 were worthy of uploads and out of these 6 only one was outstanding! With a film camera I would have wasted so much money. With my extinct-torpedoed Sony digi handy cam, I would have got 0.9 mega pix. Nikon gets me 6 megapix !!
The DAYLIGHTING feature does wonders to my badly lit pics. The Sunset/Sunrise/Dawn/Dusk/Sports options are my favorite settings.
I had a grand time shooting in trains, on the beach, the highways, shooting nature, Kerela, Ganapatifule, Harihareshwar, the trees, beaches, temples, people, bikes, and the mountains. I am in the process of picking up tricks n tips to digital photography.
