I recently purchased NIKON 4800 after doing bit of research. Though I was very confused to choose very compact pocket size camera or medium size digital camera with some decent zoom. I am very happy with the choice I made as the image quality is excellent and 8.3x optical zoom is very fast and nikon ED lens does a very good job. It has 4MP compared to the latest models released in 2005 which has 5 to 7 mp, but 4 MP is more than enough decent prints. This camera comes with 13MB internal memory which is of no use it is must we buy minimum 256MB SD card. NIKON ED lens gives coverage of 35mm equivalent with 5 point autofocus and low light AF assist illuminator. The pictures taken in dark rooms comes very clear which my old cameras lack. It has many scene modes whic I never used. The LI-ion battery is very good lasted for more than 150 shots with flash on mostly. The LCD is very small of 1.8'' no way near the 2005 models with 2.5'' lcd. but this lcd works very good even in bright sunlight. The best things in this camera is picture quality, perfect colour contrast, excellent zoom, flash modes with no red eye effect. There are very few digicams in market with viewfinder including diopter adjustments. However I would like to keep this camera if it is compact and larger 2.5'' lcd screen. Nikon latest L1 model has 2.5'' lcd and compact with only 5x optical zoom but it lacks the image quality of 4800 model. Nikon 4800 start up time is surprisingly very fast and the video quality is good with sound. I have used minolta x50, nikon 4600, kodak cameras and this nikon 4800 tops all the other 4MP camera due to the image quality and ZOOM.
