This time I've made up my mind to write a review on a book, and guess what? Its from my favorite author and many of you'll will be familiar by this personality. He's the best writer and I wish to be like him one day. The name is BOND, RUSKIN BOND!!!!!!!!!
There are many people across the globe who like this author and his books, works such as ROOM ON THE ROOF, A FLIGHT OF PIGEONS, TIME STOPS AT SHAMLI etc etc are all heart throbbing and have stole millions of hearts across the globe. But this one is really special THE NIGHT TRAIN AT DEOLI 1st edition.
I've always strongly believed in love and have always had my share of luck by being surrounded by people who love me as in my parents, relatives, friends etc.
But what about people who haven't had their share of luck in love? One sided love? Unrequited love? Attraction for someone special who is out of reach?
Normally love stories are quite long and loses its grip for the readers but this one is very unique and a masterpiece.
How I came across this book?
I am a person who isn't much interested in reading novels and books and always hate people who keep reading novels and discuss about it. Off late seeing at my this desperation my friend suggested me this book, and said I would love it and trust me she wasn't wrong. This book is something different in itself, truly unique and gripping and keeping the readers glued. Night train at Deoli is added in H.S.C. syllabus too and that too was a reason for me to accept the challenge and explore the book.
I accepted the challenge given by my friend to read this book, which was not that big. The cover itself was very appealing as it portrayed a train with quite serene environment.
Now I get on to the book and pre-decided that I would read a particular amount in a day.
DAY 1:
Was a bit excited about this book and a bit ignorant too as I hate reading book/novels but the unique cover made me somewhat excited. I started reading this book, the first few lines were quite catchy and I was glued and felt like reading more than what I thought I would read per day. By I controlled myself and kept things as per my time table.
The first day was awesome as the story was narrated by a college boy who travels by nght train from Delhi to Dehradun. The boy always goes to his grand mother's place during his summer vacations and during his journey towards dehradun he encounters a lonely station where the train stops and not even a single soul gets down at this place. At his 1st reaction the boy is like "Why the train stopped at deoli? No one ever got down nor got in? No activity at the station at all, and then the guard would blow the whistle and the train would leave the station dark and lonely again.
Till now the book made a good read and very interesting too, I was tempted to read more but I kept the suspense and surprises for the next day.
DAY 2:
A day which came with much more expectations from the book, picking up from where I left the previous day. The boy narrates that on such a journey he encounters a girl selling baskets at deoli station and it was around 4 in the morning, not seeing even a single soul at deoli made him suspicious about the girl whether is she a ghost or spirit? This incident kept the boy awake for the rest of his journey with him confused and suspicious and he was not able to get rid of the girls dark face and the state in which he met her.
Day 2 quota ends here, making me even more excited. It seemed the more I read the more I would love the book. Can't wait for the 3rd day to begin, I woke up early than normal time and sat with the book.
DAY 3:
Day 3 was even more exciting with even higher expectations. Following up from where day 2 ended, the boy was on a return journey and wanted to get hold of the girl desperately at deoli and to his surprise he finds her at deoli, this time meeting as old friends and not as stranger. To the boy excitement he jumps of the foot-board and waves to the girl, and when the girl sees the boy waving she smiles gently. Both were pleased that they remembered each other. The boy was loving every bit of it, and this time he dint want to miss on her, and it was time to leave. The boy gently hold the girls hand and wanted her to come with him and whispered that he wanted to go delhi, and she replied that she does not have to go anywhere, to his disguise the guard whistled for the train to leave. The boy just dint like the moment the guard whistled. The girl seemed very helpless and so did the boy.
DAY 4,5,6,7,8...........
Trust me I leave the rest of the story on you to decide where would you like to rate it?
On not being seen in next few times at deoli the boy is on a search for his unrequited love, and he does not portray himself as the hero who would trace the unknown girl, he would rather leave it on destiny to unite the him and the unknown girl. He feared that some more unacceptable situation which would make him sad made him stay back from tracing the girl.
This unsuccessful love story was far more better than the successful ones, mind you this Indian writer has won several hearts all over with his short stories, novels, essays etc.
Readability:
Day by day, the excitement kept growing and was never disappointed trust me. It was very nice and interesting read and having more suspense as compared to these days movies. It keeps the reader glued and very much grips the story so much so that even though its fictitious but seems real and one can feel this. Not even a single point the user feels bored or fictitious, moreover day by day the love for the story keeps increasing.
Story:
Story was something very unique and very nice, as other authors would look to close this story on a positive note, RUSKIN thinks other way and leaves the story as it is, and makes it seem even more realistic and logical. This out of the box thinking is really one to compliment. This short story was so very loved and acknowledge all over that it was included in standard 12th syllabus.
Final thoughts: I never like reading novels, short stories etc but this short story really got me thinking and will surely urge to read more short stories and novels especially by RUSKIN BOND!!!!!!!!
Out of the box thinking and very well written, and the way unrequited love concept was bought into picture was really nice. Thanks to my friend from whom I borrowed this masterpiece.
THE NAME IS BOND, RUSKIN BOND
