Why Google News (https://news.google.com/) is the best? And what keeps one coming back to it?
Like the BBC News Online (https://news.bbc.co.uk/), another excellent news site, Google News is fast loading, updated every few minutes (not hours), has no advertisements, and simple to navigate.
But, what makes Google News a unique and wonderful news source is not the above qualities. It lies in its ability to give you different perspectives of the same story. You could read how the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict is reported by the Western Media (CNN, BBC, NYTimes, Guardian, etc.), by the Israeli Newspapers (Ha’retz, Israel Insider), by the Palestinian side (Palestine Chronicle, Palestine Media Centre), by the other Arab Media (Al Jazeerah, Arab News, Gulf Daily News), and by the other unbiased media, which are totally not connected to the conflict, such as the Indian Media (Times of India, The Hindu, NDTV, etc). Thus, you get five different views of the same story, which is not possible in any other news site.
If you need more reasons, why you should visit Google News, it has recently bagged the Webby awards (Judges choice) for the best news site (People Choice award went to BBC News). And it has an Indian version too (apart from US, UK, Aussy and NZ).
On the flip side, it is really amusing and funny at times, how they select the news for the “Top Stories” section. Recently, Prince William’s 21st birthday appeared first on that section. Certainly many more important things are happening around the world.
