Our Delhi is a beautiful mix of olden times and modern times!
It is a huge city, sprawled over a very large area. It has a history, probably dating back to 6th Century BC.
Delhi has seen so many dynasties, be it Chauhans, Lodhis, Khiljis, Mughals, British rule etc. Being capital of India, over the time, many significant events that took place & the decisions that were taken here, had a great impact on whole of India.
The list of places to visit in Delhi is just endless. There are historical monuments, modern malls, marketplaces, places of worship, huge gardens and to visit these places, the ultra-modern metro.
There are old temples like Birla Temple and still new temples coming up like Lotus temple & Akshardhaam Temple. Gandhi Smriti Bhavan at Tees January Marg, is also worth a visit, where stories from Gandhi ji's life are presented using technology. Teen Murthy Bhavan is also a good place to visit, if one has interest in History.
When I was in school, we were even taken inside Parliament House. And I always look forward to going to Mughal Gardens, when it is open for public during mid February every year.
There is Dilli Haat with traditional looks all through the year. And there is International Trade Fair, that is held at Pragati Maidan in November every year. Both give glimpse of entire India at one place.
Delhi has National Museum, Lodi Gardens, Humayun Tomb, Jantar Mantar, Old Fort, Mehrauli, Qutub Minar, Hauz Khas Village to remind us of olden times. If one likes it then one may go through hustle bustle of Chandni Chowk & visit Red Fort too. A slow drive on Raj Path, up to the Rashtrapati Bhavan and a drive around in Lutyen's area gives joy. Here the roads are wide and the bungalows and greenery are awesome.
There is even "Hop On Hop Off" Bus service Delhi sightseeing. One can get down at any tourist place, spend as much time as one wants to, and then catch the next HoHo bus for the next tourist place on same ticket.
To name the modern places, there are so many famous malls like Select Citywalk in Saket and others in Vasant Kunj Area, Habitat Center. One may not shop always. Just sitting and looking around is also relaxing.
Delhi has mixed cultures and cuisines. There are auditoriums like Kamani, Siri Fort etc., where cultural programs, plays are performed. And, I don't think anybody will miss the food of his state, while staying in Delhi. All festivals are celebrated with equal importance. Accommodation in all price range is available.
There are so many flyovers, all over in Delhi. If maintained well, they are very convenient. Delhi is well connected because of airways, highways and railways.
Yes, one has to take his/her own measures of safety. But then, that is true for any part of the world. I myself come across rude selfish people in Delhi occasionally. But thankfully, such incidents are few even though very very disturbing.
All I can say is, I love Delhi, I was born here, brought up here and will be happy to die here.
