NP, “ Mulund !”

Interviewer, “ Where is that ?”

This is what happens with most students of MCC! Lol

The College & Facilities

Situated in one end of Mumbai ie Mulund , MCC , a Parle Tilak Vidyalaya Association Institution is a college now offering Commerce stream studies from Junior College & Degree College ie Graduation & Post Graduation . It is very close to the railway station in the West. From last year onwards it is also offering BMS in its curriculum. The college doesn’t have a campus to boast about. It is just three storeyed building ( 3rd floor constructed just this year from a Govt. grant ) with a small vacant piece of land in the center just enough for a volleyball court.

The teaching staff consists of well qualified professors. Most of them are chartered accountants, Doctrates and Masters in Education. This is one of the very few colleges offering Operations Research in the final year of B Com. Also in the Junior College it offers Sanskrit ,French & German for the optional third language. The college eventhough not very well known manages to get into the merit list of the Board & the Varsity exams. Its not good as the Podar, Sydneham or NM but closely follows them. It is preferred by students coming from further down Dombivli, Ambarnath etc. The Std 10th rankers from these areas wishing commerce land up here. The cut off for admission is about 79/80% marks in the Std. 10th exams.

The college has a small Auditiorium just enough to seat a 100. It’s a bit too less but they are working on increasing the capacity. The Gymkhana has a well equipped gymnasium and facilities for carrom & table tennis. The library is a huge one with a fairly decent collection of books. The only problem with it is that they shut down the library at 7 pm.

Other Courses offered

The Institute of Management & Professional Studies (IMPS) provides with a range of short courses & diplomas like Tax management, Business management, Finance management etc which are part time course ranging from a duration of 1 to 2 years. Various seminars like that on Budget, Credit policy etc are conducted from time to time where in guest lectures & eminent personalities & speakers are invited on a regular basis.

The Computrain is an institute which caters to the computer facilities for the college curriculum also provides a range of courses like that on Oracle , C , C++, UNIX, OOPS, Java etc and also the basics of computers like the DOS, MS office etc. However there is a doubt on the teaching abilities of the faculty out here. When it comes to the basics its fine but then if its Java ,Oracle its no good. The computers however are in good condition & are upgraded on a regular basis as per requirements. Most PC here now are P II’s. I think that fairly decent.

Extra Curricullars

The college takes part in most sports. It has produced eminent sportsmen in the national & International arena. The Volleyball team of which I was a part of for 5 years & the captain in my final year ranks amongst the top eight in Mumbai University. However it doesn’t we have never got past the quarters in the University tournaments. However we have won a few tournaments here & there. We also organize an Intercollegiate Volleyball Tournament. The top eight teams of the university are called for a super league tounament. This is rated by most top players & officials as the best organized in Mumbai. It is one of the few tournaments played under flood lights. For the foreign MS members information Volleyball here in most places is still an outdoor game. The organization of the tornament used to take a months time & that month used to be real fun. We plyers used used to toil hard & do a lot of masti. The organization used to be purely the players effort right from the preparation of the ground to the fund raising & sponsors. The college also has a good cricket team. The chess & table tennis teams has won a laurels in the national level.

The other Highlight is the college fest Spectrum previously called Jallosh. Here a lot of programmes & contests are organized over a period of a week. Right from games, personality contests , informals etc are organized. The best part is the last evening of the fest called the Swar Sandhya which is a Marathi Musical night. One might feel that he or she cant enjoy if things are in an unknown language but mind you once you getting to the foot tapping mood then who cares what the songs are…. Just dance your heart out.

My Maja Masti

My 5 years in college was total fun. No attending lectures….. daily attendence in the canteen & the gymkhana. But I managed to get a first class in most years. I don’t know how I did that. I d like to enumerate a few .

In the college fest in the final year, there were a lot of contests. There were few in which myself & a few friends in the final year did not take part in. There was a personality contest where in I went in like a man from Adis Ababa. I went in with an interpreter. They audience did not know what I was speaking nor did the interpreter. I blabbered what I felt like & so did the interpreter. The judges were astonished & zapped for sometime coz they did not know how to rate me. I did nt win too.But it was out & out fun. The crowd enjoyed it & so did I. I did my bit to make quite a lot of people laugh that day.

In the same year there was this recitation contest & guess what mauh did? I recited,

Jack & Jill went up the hill

To fetch a pale of water

Jack fell down & died

Jill came down & cried. !!!! total anti climax !

Since the poem was too short I still had a few mins left so guess what I recited next!!!!!

Baa Baa Black Sheep Have you any wool,

NO!!!!!

& the judges had questions all over again. I did not win that event either . However I have won a lot in college. Not just the games & contest but a lot of love from my friends , cooperation from the staff and sweet memories !! I think that suffices… what say folks?
