MTNL has launched a marvel of a ADSL broadband service, I must say.
Have been using their ADSL offering under the TRIBAND brand name since a month now and I must say it is truly amazing.
The quality of service is impeccable. I am on a 256 Kbps account, on an average I get a 200-210 Kbps connection. A lot of factors like distance from the telephone exchange / parallel connections at home/ quality of wiring etc come into play to determine this speed.
Planning to migrate to a 512 Kbps offering soon.
One downside to the ADSL connections as of now is, all the tariff plans
have a download cap on them, beyond which you are charged on the basis of PER MB downloaded :) .. really strange .. they would rather charge in slabs of every 100 MB. Anyway ..
This connection is not for those who are looking to download Music and movies off the internet using P2P networks. Also not recommended for power users or people using heavy attachments in their emails.
Because you will soon exhaust the free MB's alloted to you for the month. Its also best to keep checking your account balance from time to time using the webbased interface that MTNL provides.
The connection drops every night at precisely 11:54pm and is back on again at 11:56pm . I think this would be to activate their Night time plans. They should definately improve on their technology to prevent such drops for everyone of their users.
Overall the service has exceeded all my expectations from a Government owned company like MTNL.
Moreover I have recently installed a wireless router (Apple Airport Express) which combines wireless Audio with a wireless print server.
So I am now enjoying high speed internet throughout my apartment on my laptop.
