I have had a internet cable connection from a local cablewallah for the last 5 yrs, connected to my desktop PC. My subscription is for an unlimited download/upload at a "promised" 128 kbps for Rs 1,500 per month. I got this after I was fed up with my vsnl dial-up connection which was notorious for "disconnection" right in the middle of a download. Also it would disconnect every time I got a call on the same phone line. I am happy with the cable except for the fact that the after-sales service for troubleshooting is exceptionally poor and everytime my monthly subscription runs out, the cablewallah needs to be called up for renewal, he won't do it himself. And calling up the PM of the country is easier than getting some sensible soul on the phone who will renew the connection without a mistake.
Anyway, after I bought a laptop, it was cumbersome to move the wires around,so I bought a MTNL triband ADSL connection. I bought the modem myself for Rs 2150 and the chap who bought it for me configured it as well. Within 12 hours, I had a man from MTNL come over to start it off and within another 24 hours I got a call from MTNL to check if it was working well. I was amazed and pleasantly surprised at their promptness and Follow-up. I have had it for about 6 months now and it has never given me a problem. I get speeds of about 144-256 kbps on the scheme I have chosen and have never had any problem with download or upload. The phone continues to work even when the modem is attached without any problem.
I compliment MTNL on this product and their efficiency.
