A start company's hiring misery with Monster India job portal - A true Monster!
The trap!
We are an IT start-up firm and have an aggressive hiring plan. We believed Monster India job portal & its team can foster our hiring plan. The sales representative & the Manager promised us base in-class services, support and that they have so many track records in helping start-up companies. Initially, they were convinced with bloated statistics – The number of matching resumes for IT jobs in their resume database, turnaround time, average applicants for a posting, and their dedicated back office team to help in connecting applicants with us.
It is all crap and just a Marketing gimmick!
The team persuaded us to purchase an annual subscription citing our requirements and better discounts(Pandemic discounts! and whatnot). We purchased 20 hot posting+ database search for one year at a premium of INR 40, 000/-. Later, it turned out to be a disaster to the company both economically and strategically!
Here comes the shock!
We posted the first Job Ad for a key role – “IT Solution Architect” on 10/Nov. The posting expired after 2 months. The number of people who viewed the job advertisement was just 227! A 2017 survey states that Bangalore alone employs 1.5 Million, Software professionals. In such a huge market, how can Monster India justify your service of 227 views in 2 months?
And sadly, there were only 17 applications, none of them matched 50% of the required skillset and were disqualified just by looking into their resumes. The job seeker profiles are of very bad quality in the Monster India database! If you are looking for a skilled profile, never think about the Monster database.
I raised my concerns multiple times. The so-called Sales Manager did not bother to attend my phone call. I received a call from another so-called Senior Sales Manager, during the initial conversation, she did not even know my concerns and made yet another set of fake promises and disappeared. she guaranteed that she will enable certain features like “SMS Alert”, “Brand Maximizer”, “Social Branding” to increase visibility and the number of applicants. Nothing came to reality. There were a couple of escalation emails but ended up in vain!
We purchased another subscription from Naukri exactly one month later, the number of applicants is more than the number of views in Monster. This proofs that Monster is “Fit for nothing” and absolutely no value for money!
For a start-up like us, this is a high cost and hard-earned money. I asked them to cancel my agreement and process a refund; no one opened their mouth to discuss a refund. This amount is equivalent to a 1-month Software developer salary. This is a daytime loot.
Lesson learned, the hard way! And some suggestions to entrepreneurs
Do not believe these Monsters, they will suck your money mercilessly. Monster India is money-minded and not customer-focused. For job postings, take only the necessary subscription for current openings, no annual subscriptions!
Dear Monster India,
Kindly note that India has the 3rd largest start-up ecosystem in the world; there are 2-3 tech start-ups born every day. You cannot be disloyal to these customers. Your money motive and unfaithful business model will soon end up as a tragedy!
