Well, this is one of few rare films which you will remember for a long time after you have watched the movie. The acting is so natural that other 'shaadi' films like 'Hum Aap ke Hain Kaun' pale in comparison. Shot entirely on a hand-held camera in a period of one month with a shoe-string budget, Mira Nair has pulled off yet another remarkable surprise on us.
The story is about a typical Punjabi shaadi in New Delhi where Naseeruddin Shah & Lillette Dubey play the part of father & mother of the bride to perfection. The typical complications & tensions prior to a wedding are shown with the mandap contractor 'P.K.Dubey' aka Vijay Raaz stealing the show. Chewing on marigolds, he enacts his own romance with the house maid Alice keeping everyone in the audience in splits & touching their hearts.
Child abuse, pre-marital affair, censorship, festive wedding songs are the other themes dealt in the movie. Vasundhara Das as the bride looks pretty. Shefali Shettyas the bride's sister looks convincing. Others like Khulbushan Kharbanda & Rajat Kapoor give good support.
I am sure this movie will win many awards at Filmfare besides those at Venice & Toronto. So, head for this movie with your friends/spouse & you will get more than your money's worth!
