What a pleasant surprise! Somehow YRF seems to deliver their best when the theme of their movies revolve around ‘Marriage. After a delightful Band Bajaa Baraat last year , here is another wonderful treat from them that goes by the name of ‘ Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’ .
Mere Brother Ki Dulhan is a sweet simple film with nothing extra ordinary about it but it achieves what most movies nowadays fail to do-it brings a smile on your face ! Also the fantastic performances from the lead players are like an icing on the cake .Bring home this Dulhan is what I would say.
The film narrates the Story of Kush (Imran Khan) who is in search of a bride for his elder brother (Ali Zafar) .After a series of complicated arrangements , Kush finally finds a perfect match for his brother in Dimple( Katrina Kaif) .Kush and Dimple spend some time with each other and develop affection each other .Its too late before Kush realize that he is in love with a girl who is about to get married to his brother!
Reading the above synopsis you would probably think that MBKD is a serious affair .However the entire film has been treated in such a humorous way that you can not help but break into laughter at several points in the narrative .
The biggest plus point of the film I would say is its pace .The film moves so rapidly that it does not even give you a chance to think except for the last 15 minutes which kinda feel stretched .The parental oppositions in the last few reels feel like an uninvited guest in the plot .It Only adds to the length of the film .
The film also works because there are several well executed moments which you can relate to. Katrina’s dilemma vis-à-vis her marriage is something most girls would relate to .The end of freedom after marriage life , to change yourself according to the new family are something so true to life and identifiable.
Likewise Imran and Katrina ‘s romantic portions are simply a delight .Both the actors are simply sizzling and look made for each other .They share a fantastic chemistry .Katrina realizing that something is missing in her life brought a lump in my throat .The silence speaks more than words in these portions .
Also the humor in the film is not a slapstick variety which is such a refreshing change .Situational humor is what the film relies on and they really make you chuckle!
On the negative side , there are some portions which give you a sense of déjà vu .The love triangle depicted in the film has been seen so many times .The twist in the tale is quite similar to ‘Sorry Bhai ‘.Of course the treatment of both the films are as different as chalk and cheese but you can not help but draw parallels .
Also the second hour of the film is far less energetic than the first half. The pace drops in the finale which should have been taken care of .
Performances are quite good .Katrina Kaif looks like a million bucks but what I noticed this time that she has really evolved into a fine actor .First Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and now MBKD , one can not help but notice that year 2011 has brought forward a new side of this actress .She truly rocks in the title role .Imran Khan looks perfect for the part .The sincerity in his performance shows .Ali Zafar does well.
Overall a film that can be watched with your entire family. Give this a try .The film is sure to end your weekend in a very pleasant mode..
