I had used Matrix international SIM cards when I traveled to Thailand. It was an excellent experience using it. If you are planning to travel abroad it would be very expensive to activate your present mobile connection for international roaming. Operators like Vodafone may charge up to Rs.100 per minute of incoming call. Matrix SIM cards is an excellent alternative to this. Majority of the tariffs have free incoming calls and some free local talktime minutes. Outgoing international calls (To India) is also reasonable and price varies from country to country. They have daily rentals and depends on which country SIM you buy. It may cost between Rs.30-50 per day depending on the country. You will be charged rentals only for the number of days you use the SIM in that country. Extra charges will be only for the calls you make. As incoming calls are free you can give the SIM number to your family in India and ask them to call you, which works out very cheap. This SIM works on any GSM phone and network or connectivity is excellent.

It does not matter if your city does not have any branch.You can communicate with them by e mail or telephone and the service is excellent. First you have to tell them when you are travelling, the number of days and the country of travel. Based on this they will give the best tariff. Next you can request them to send application for by email. We have to give a photocopy of our passport with VISA stamping, one photo and photocopy of our credit card. The particulars can be couriered to them along with application form. They will block Rs.5, 000-Rs.10, 000 in your credit card initially depending on country of travel and then courier you the SIM card. After you use the card you have courier it back to them. Then they will send you a bill and the exact amount will be deducted from your credit card.
If you use this SIM only for incoming calls your bill may come to 250 or 300 for 6-7 days travel. I thing its the best and cheapest way to stay in touch with family. It will definitely help you in emergency situations also. Matrix have SIM cards to majority of most visited countries.
