Matheran : A Paradise Of Its Own!

At an altitude of 800 Mts and being 104 km away from Mumbai this beautiful hill station is skillfully crafted out in the heart of the mountains. Our trip ( my fiancé & self ) started out during the second week of December. We set out of Mumbai city as early as 6:15 precisely in the morning by car and touched down at Dasturi Nakka at approximately 9:15 am.

The Excitement Starts : Upon reaching the taxi stand, we had a hoard of locals rushing into us giving us offers and special discounts on Hand-rickshaw's, Horses?and Lodging facilities. Since we had already arranged for our stay in Brightlands Resort, all we needed was transport. Being more for adventure and sport, we chose an exceptionally well kept pair of outstanding Horses namely Tezaab & Swabhimaan who's Proud Owner Vital we found most hospitable and gentle. Both horses were very well built stallions?.specially Tezaab, he trotted along very majestically like???sometimes I felt other horses literally made way for him a KING of his type, with red Indian colors of white and brown spots?.he ran like the wind, and stood his ground like a pillar, making me feel on top of the world, the other horse was more of a follower in a beige coat.

The trot to the resort was fun?we came across many local workers putting in all their effort at getting fully loaded carts uphill, how they did it was amazing as it looked so impossible?.i really admire their strength and courage?further ahead we passed by the toy-train station, main market there too we saw many queer on-lookers, and other holiday lovers. Matheran indeed was a land of red mud and monkeys.

On reaching the resort we were greeted with warm smiles from the security guard outside the gate till the receptionists?.who immediately got our room arranged. We then were treated to a much needed breakfast which we both enjoyed. Both of us were overjoyed on reaching the place?and already began planning on what t do next as we were to spend just 2 1/2 days. We soon found ourselves strolling down the main market place and then decided to move on to a few points close by.

Thus went to Khandala point first since it was the closest it had a great view, then moved our tracks towards Charlotte lake which seemed so enchanting? Even went down towards the main electricity plant..and Lords point was simply fabulous even spotted a family of monkeys there playfully mingling with each other in the trees. After the three points took a break sipping on some excellent Ghanna Juice (Sugarcane)..as the walk was tiring.

Then headed for Echo point which again was beautiful, you really have to scream loud enough to hear your voice echo?.but it sounds good after all the effort. That was the last point we did for the afternoon as we headed back to our hotel for some nice lunch.

Towards the evening took the 4 point Horse ride on another pair of horses and visited Alexandra point, Rambhaug Point, Lovers Point and Main Chowk Point. Most of them were related?but at different angles. But again the view from them all was thrilling. Towards the evening, we decided to eat in a vegetarian restaurant since we were already back in the market place. Don?t remember the name but they had great vegetarian dishes..which were mouth-watering..also had a pool table outside. Getting back to the resort we witnessed a Magic show professionally done by one of the local youth courtesy of the resort, and thereafter to a night of music dancing.

Got up early next morning again for some great breakfast..and got Vital and our favourite horses going on a 7 point ride. We came across One tree Hill which I loved best from them all, The Adivasi village looked beautiful from atop the hill, Man Point was also great, we even fed the Horses Biscuit packets up-there and it was so great them eating out of your hand??.we had grown to really love those animals. The Other points were Louisa Point & Lions head, Panorama Point, Mount Berry & Garbut Point?.again each of these are masterpieces themselves?.the best I can say about all these points is that together they make you one with Nature. If you're an adventure lover?.Matheran's the place you wanna definitely be in.

Coming back in the afternoon we had lunch back at the resort?.and really rested it out till about 5 after the tiring yet adventurous 7 point ride. Being the last evening for us in matheran, we did some shop jumping?came across some fine Kholapuri sandals jute bags, swings, ceramic items?.and of course the ever famous chikki variety's, chocolate fudge and honey. Thereafter the night stay was very romantic in the resort, with them having a candle-lit dinner for all the guest, with a huge Bon-fire?.making the moment apt for everyone.

The next morning we were scurrying through things?getting ourselves organized for our journey back, after the sweet goodbyes from all the staff and management we left the premises of Brightlands resort only to meet our friend & guide Vital and our favourite horses who were there to escort us back to Dasturi Nakka. All in all we had a fun-tabulous time?.with the people, horses, our stay everything fitted well in its place. To all of you reading this personal review, Matheran is Definitely A Paradise Of its Own.
