No other Bollywood actress other thanPriyanka Chopra couldhave fit the character of amazing Mary
Kom. After watching the great movie, that is the only thing that will cross your mind. `Mary Kom` directed by
Omung Kumar is a tribute to the living legend of MC Mary Kom. The biography which traces the nice journey of five times world boxing champion and Olympic medalist Mary Kom, is just the great tailor-made for the big indian cinema.
Young Mary, played by
Priyanka, who hails from a small town which is Manipur, is rebellious and a brave fighter since her childhood and has always nurtured the dream of being a brave boxer. But her old culture father stands in front of her brave dream and does not approve her of going to the boxing ring.
She easily picks up fights with the school boys and surely is not one to be put down that easily. That is when she meets her strict coach Narjit Singh(Sunil Thapa) who is=one of the important pivotal figures in her life=. Together they both embark on a journey to give the world a brave world champion, Mary Kom, that we know till now.
Despite all the odds, a poor diet and facing
ahigh tide of racism(because she is a Northeasterner), Marykom braves it and packs some=brave power punches to win= the world championship. An emotional moment for her, as that is the only time when her father understands the passion that burns within her and accepts her fighting decision wholeheartedly. Mary, through this journey, meets(Darshan Kumar) who promises to support her in her boxing career throughout and amidst a song, they say that `I do`, miffing her coach as he believes this would mark the end of Mary's boxing career.
Post marriage, Mary's boxing career was almost comes to a halt. Mary becomes a forgotten hero in boxing and it hits her hard when a kid whom she meets in a bus wants to become same as Mary but fails to recognise mary. Three times World Champion Mary kom decides to get her bright career back on track and starts her tough training in full swing.
And all respect to the coach, who stands like a nice true pillar of support for her in the lean times and gives him courage to go back to what she is best at doing boxing.
But the fighter spirit does not stop there at that point. The brave Mary with all her heart and soul comes back in great form and shape, and after reconciling with her encouraging coach, both set out to conquer the world for them. The story picks up great pace from that point. The build up to the massive fights was very intense and there are some nail-biting
interesting moments too. What should be mentioned here is that the nice end, made me realise that how the movie brought out the patriotism in the watching audience. They were whole heartedly clapping and rooting for Mary kom and the entire hall stood up to the National Anthem of our country which played towards the awesome end.
