I would thanks all the earlier reviewers for making my decision quicker in choosing Wagon R. This is my first car and hadn't driven a manual car for long time. I thought I will share few things as the car is now driven for more than 3000km.
The car is Wagon R VXi model (mfg in Dec 2006) without ABS and airbags. I bought the car in June 2007. Got a decent discount as the car model was of prior year. I got Blaupunk music system (purchased from Mandovi Motors, Wilson Garden, Bangalore) installed by Pratham Motors, ORR, Bangalore. This cost me Rs 10k over the car cost.
Mileage on highway- 17km/l
City driving: 12.5-13km/l
Maneuverability and ease of driving are the two things I find positive. The car is easy to get in and out, considering that my height is 5' 8". With many relatives visiting us, picking and dropping them is not a hassle considering the ample amount of space for storing bags/luggage. These aspects helped me decide on Wagor R over Alto.
I drove the new car from Belgaum to Bangalore couple of days after purchasing it. The journey was quite pleasant with the car fully loaded with people and baggage.
Recently I found that there was some noise whenever I started the car first time in the morning and in the evening. I went to Pratham Motors, ORR, Bangalore today, who explained to me that this being monsoon season, water may get near the belt due to which the noise came. They cleaned it and applied petroleum jelly, which got rid of the noise.
In short a good vehicle for a small family for regular usage and also a vehicle which scales up for once in a while large family/friends outings. Will update couple of months after the second service.(5000km)
