When I decided to buy my car(my first - a maruti 800) in December 1998, I found out to my utter surprise that it was overpriced by atleast Rs. 26,000/- as that was the amount by which MUL slashed the price by on 29 Dec 1998 fearing stiff competetion from the-yet-to-be launched Indica (which was launched the next day!!)
The entry of cars like Indica, Santro and Matiz had shaken MUL out of its complacency. However, the failure of cars like Indica to make an impact on the market has again made MUL to act up and keep upgrading its price upwards.
The basic problem that I found with the manufacturer is that they try to charge the Indian consumer the max possible while giving away the minimum possible!! But then I guez it goes for other manufacturers too and is not limited to just MUL.
Overall, the 800 is just about what you can call a car. The only good thing about it being that it is still reliable vehicle and has lots of support available.
Chalti ka naam gaadi at best!!
