Some places are so virgin that you donot feel like letting people know about them; so that noone can go and ruin it. Though I havenot been to such many such places, but I am sure the count is decreasing everyday. Recently I had been to Mandarmani, a quiet virgin beach in West Bengal. This place had been discovered very recently. The favourite beach for tourists to West Bengal, Digha is now crowded and dirty. That’s what over exposure does to a holiday destination.
Sadly Mandarmani is too going the same way and I can imagine almost the same situation after 5 years . The way rich people who had gone there for holidays have bought land and have started building ugly concrete “ hotels”, “ resorts” “ guest houses” is really sad.
So guys, if anyone is planning a holiday, a quiet one with “ no funfare” and “ no frills” try Mandarmani. There are some luxury resorts like Rose Valley and sana Beach resort. Personally I did not like Rose Valley at all. It simply doesnot have the feel that I was at Mandarmani, a quiet simple beach on the Bay of Bengal.
One can take a Digha bound bus from Esplanade, Kolkata . You have to get down at Chaulkhola, about 20 km before Digha. From Chaulkhola, you will get trekkers or hatgadis( go for the machine one). Trekker charges are actually 8-10 Rs.per person. The driver may ask for more. So better enquire with the fellow local passengers. Hatgadi is an unique experience. The Hatgadiwala charges Rs. 60-100 depending on the distance of the resort he will take you to. All the resorts are right on the beach.
If you wish to spend some quiet peaceful moment with yourself or your loved one, this is the place.
PS: Mandarmani doesnot have electricity still. The resorts have generators.
