Popular director David Dhawan returns with his next venture, Main Tera Hero, a romantic comedy starring his son Varun Dhawan with Ileana D Cruz and Nargis Fakhri as the female leads. As is customary in recent films of his, Sajid Wajid are the chosen composers with multiple lyricists on board. The last few releases of Sajid Wajid have received quite a tepid response and they have more than a point to prove with the soundtrack here. A youthful, peppy score is expected here with a generous dose of chartbusters and one hopes Sajid Wajid live up to the expectations.

The soundtrack starts on a smashing note with Besharmi Ki Height, which became instantly popular as soon as it was released. Right from the word go, Sajid Wajid chart Pritam's territory. The whole texture of the song reminds one of Pritam's sound. Kausar Munir and Kumaar's lyrics go well with the fast beats and the adds to the fun quotient of the song. Benny Dayal, the go-to singer of all party songs is in very fine form here too and Shalmali Kholgade is on par with Benny and makes the song a delight. Expect the song to be played in all pubs and discotheques for some time.

Palat-Tera Hero Idhar Hai sees the current hot favorite of composers, Arijit Singh behind the mike. This is a song that has the Sajid Wajid stamp firmly all over the place. Kausar Munir and Danish Sabri's lyrics is one of the strong points of the song and one can almost visualise Govinda dancing to it. The 90's feel does not harm the song one bit and it is an enjoyable fare from start to finish. Arijit Singh does a terrific job and one cant but admire the versatility he is displaying in his choices. One more chartbuster.

Arijit Singh and Shalmali Kholgade return for the next song Shanivaar Raati, another track with a strong 90's feel. The beats somehow do not gel well with the tune, which in itself is not quite engaging. The music in the interludes too could have been better and one just wishes the composers had spent a lot more time on the tune. The singing is routine and flat at some points. This one is a situational number which can be expected to have its takers after the video releases.

Galat Baat Hai is the final song of the album and sees Javed Ali and Neeti Mohan behind the mike. The initial background music is reminiscent of the music of Tumse MIlka dil ka of Main Hoon Naa, but it takes a different route later. After 2 strong initial tracks, Sajid Wajid fail to maintain the momentum and this is yet another average composition where even the singers fail to make any impression. The lyrics too are run of the mill and this one ends up as a disappointment.

Rating:2/5

After the original tracks, it is the turn of remixes. The remix of Besharmi Ki Height sees added beats and loops, but does not come close to the original and makes one wonder whether a remix was actually necessary. The same can be said about the remix of Shanivaar Raati which could have lifted the original, but fails to do so. Palat-Remix too has nothing to take not of and is a wasted effort. The quality of remixes has come down drastically in bollywood movies these days!

What works for the soundtrack is the length, with just 4 tracks. Besharmi Ki Height and Palat are sure shot chartbusters and hide the inadequacies of the subsequent two tracks. Sajid Wajid are still finding it tough to find their groove in 2014, and the success of the first two tracks should come as a boost to them. But they manage to keep a lively vibe through out the album, which should ensure a good opening to this rom-com!
