'' MAIN PREM KI DIWANI HOON'' MELODY SHORTCHANGED
Grapewine is that Annu Malik has that ''extra'' thing to churn out a tune in just thirty ……..Period .In ''Main Prem Ki ….' (MPKDH) perhaps the gentleman should have worn a thinking hat and invested more time and energy in producing ten odd tracks.
Just think on these lines . A gorgeous set up having the previlege of fishing out three super successes in a row , a brilliant director, the most wanting and enviable
star caste, a lethal storyline , youth power and a glossy New Zealand. Stage set for a fifty weeks running potboiler? May be may not be.
With the bollywood down in dumps for last eighteen months, a popular music score surely means half the battle is won at the box office, MPKDH falls short of
expectations degenerating into mediocrity just after a couple of opening numbers. It misses that sting where popularity is shortchanged to old rehashes.
MPKDH is a gathering of rank romantic tracks showcasing an obsession of alling in love with love. Chitra , KK and Shaan , todays icon of youth have sung with disarming versatility. Dev Kohli has shown a flair for straight forward boy meets girl https://lyrics.
To shoot, ''dil ne bahoot'' the opening score is a flamboyant track having all the elements of a chartbuster. KK symbolizing todays partying youth and a high pitched wafer line vocal chord of Chitra do elevate the song to no one score. Effortless variation and enthralling beats do make it worth a rewind. 'Sanjana' following the above is a confession relying too heavily and successfully too on KKs catchline.Ably escorted by Chitra Its surely going to add to the boxoffice value.
''Ladka' a solo performance by KK can make inroads to the popularity charts. It has a pop like structure where the words are loaded with a million sweetnothings.
Now, barring a forgettable duo by Sunidhi and Sarita Kapoor the entire album is unilaterally dominated by Chitra. ''O Ajnabi' played twice , 'kasam se'' , ''bani Bani'', Bhatke panchi'' all showcasing variations of her voice. And that’s where the album goes asking for more. The artist who has already bookmarked herself under the baton of AR Rehman has sincerely tried to infuse all her expertise and lessons in her performance but some how her slip does show up. Her monotony is her major
weakness demanding a break. Moreover the absence of Alka Yagnik, K Krishna murthy and Sadhna Sargam does hurt the music lovers.
Now even the editor has a job here. At least three tracks may suffer deletions from the screen. Good God!
All in All,only an extraordinary script and direction by Sooraj Badjatya can salvage a just okay-dokay music score.
