“The best thing is to look natural, but it takes makeup to look natural”- Calvin Klein
That's a classic CK quote which always makes me smile. Yeah how we are after the Natural look now a days.Nude colored gloss, nude blusher, nude colored nail paints.and what not. When a fab catches on, we really go after it till it leaves us for good:)
Now this review is not about looking plainly natural, but adding a dash of shimmer to transform you from the Plain Jane look to that of a gorgeous lady. Ladies in US, are particularly finicky about their face and eye makeup. What all they don’t do to their faces! It’s here that I came to know of the terms like - Smokey eyes, mineral makeup, organic makeup, loose foundation etc. I really appreciate the effort the ladies put in to look beautiful. Its by observing the ladies at the makeup counter in the malls like Nordstrom and Macy, that I got to learn the fine art of what makeup is all about.
Personally I hate being too made up. Hence my facial makeup consists of a dash of blusher, kohl for eyes and a shimmer lip-gloss. If its night time I would add foundation, little eye shadow and one extra shade of eyeliner to the previous list. That’s the max my face can bear. But sometimes I feel that a bit of something more could make it more perfect.
I searched through the array of all beauty products displayed at the counter to find out what that ‘something’ could be. Actually I had a vague idea of what I wanted; I had seen a friend of mine wear a foundation which had a slight amount of glitter. She was looking very good and that image stuck to me. I asked a number of sales person about any liquid foundation that had glittering effect. Everyone gave me the same answer – there is no liquid foundation with glitters in the market.
Finally at the Chanel counter, the snobbish saleswoman presented me with an alternate – powder glitter. With her nose held high up, even without my permission she dabbed on some of it on my right cheek. Not bad – I thought looking at the mirror. Now comes the deadly thing- price. I dared to ask for it. 60$ - that was enough for me to run away. I decided to stick to my old makeup routine. I didn’t want to look that expensively beautiful:-)
Just on my way out I saw a poster of M.A.C bronzing powder. While I was speculating on whether to ask and face the same embarrassment again, the lady at the counter cordially invited me to have a seat. With expert hands she took out a flat circular container, tapped the lid and brushed some of the powder on the back of my palm. Wow, I am impressed.
Before I could start dreaming of owning the thing I asked for the price. 22$ sounded like heaven to me compared to 60$ and with a smile I asked the lady to apply some of it on my face, so that I can give it the final go ahead. On my face it looked even prettier and then there was no looking back!
The product(Thanks to the input received from Sales Girl)
Iridescent Powder is a finely milled mixture of Mica and pigments which gives the skin a beautiful sheen. Its very light and comfortable on the skin, actually giving you the no makeup feel. It has a soft and lovely pearly glow which suits every skin tone and goes with almost every dress; you only need to vary the amount you use. It’s very subtle and uniformly spreads on the skin without streaking and caking. I am using the Bronze shade, which perfectly blends with any Indian skin tone making it more mesmerizing!
How to Apply
There are small square shaped sieves on the inner lid of the container just like a talcum powder container. So you just have to turn it a bit and tap, which will bring out the powder from the sieves. Then just swirl your brush over the loose powder on the lid and light-handedly brush it on your cheek and cheekbones to give you the shimmery look.
Some more tips
Because it's so concentrated it should be used sparingly at first. Its well suited for summer to add that extra bit of glow to your face. Its equally good for winters to give you the warm summer sun feel. Can be worn directly on the skin. But it gives a better feel and effect if used over your normal foundation or blush.
Just make sure you use minimal blusher or foundation, otherwise glitter and too much blusher/foundation would definitely end up in a fashion disaster.
MAC’s Iridescent Loose Powder can also be used as a highlighter on cheek and brow bones or over your eye lids if you don’t prefer to make your entire face glitter. Also you can use it on your arms and neck to give that uniform sheen all over your body, especially if you are using it at night.
