An advertisement in newspaper about a magazine, which claimed to be India?s first ?soul, body and spirit? magazine attracted me to Life Positive, it was way back in 1996, since then I have been a regular reader of this magazine.
But, now Life Positive has changed and the change is for better in some respect and not so good in other respect.
Let us examine the changes?
The editor ? From Praveen Chopra To Suma Varughese
The punch line ? India?s First Body Soul and Spirit Magazine To Your Complete Guide to Personal Growth.
The price? From Rs.15 to Rs.30 (special issue priced at Rs. 50 )
Columnists? Earlier used to be some regular columnist, but these day they keep on changing after 5 or 6 issues. Mr. Sharma of Mindsport fame used to be regular contributor but he has been discontinued.
Print Quality ? Improved.
This magazine, now edited by Suma Varughese (She used to edit Society before joining LP) has got a new look, thanks to the new graphic designer, and there is palpable change in the content. The magazines latest issue (March 2005) has cover story on Robin Sharma (author of the bestseller The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari) and on Deepak Chopra and lead story on Sufism.
The magazine has covered some really great issues and topics in the past, and their in depth analysis of several esoteric topics in very crisp and succinct manner. The articles written in LP ranges from ?Scientology? to ?Sufism?, from ?Osho? to ?Sri Ravishankar? from ?Explanation of dreams? to ? Sex and God?.
The USP of LP has always been New Age. If new age movement has found its root in the Indian society (specially in the upper class or upper middle class) it deserves a lot of credit. I think it is this magazine which set a trend to bring Spirituality in the main streap newspapers (ex. TOI?s Sunday supplement on Spirituality)
Their review section is great. They have continuously been reviewing Movies, Books, Music and websites on different themes (New Age, Spirituality etc.), and this section can serve as a guide to meaningful movies and books.
This magazine has got a niche readership in the older age spiritually inclined people, but off late as New Age, is becoming buzz word in youth too, they have really got a good market now.
In my opinion, if you have not read LP yet, you must give it a try. Certainly, there is something for every age group, though you might find some articles unbelievable (and don?t go by the ads published in the mag, they are outright crazy and sometimes bizarre).
