“Even Gold needs a smith to make it into beautiful jewelry.

Here Farhan Akthar is the smith who now exposes the beauty of this golden Trio’s talent in music.”

These days Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy is hard hitting and dominates the Hindi music industry with continuous successful albums. Recent Hit was “Kal ho naa ho”. I think some of the music directors are at their best when handled by certain directors one among the best combination in India is Farhan akthar and SEL. “Lakshya” is the first non-ARR Hindi Hindi album that I am buying from my own money just because of the impression they left with their previous combination album “Dil chatha hai”. Both of them have some thirst of doing something different and new. SEL has their own way of composing tunes and creating magic in songs. With this album they confirms their place in Hindi filmdom.

Mein aisa kyun hoon

Artist: Shaan

It is an excellent massy number with some nice lyrics about the confused state of a young man who has joined army training newly. The soft and slow pad beats at the background gives lazy feel to the song. The “Oh wei ha” part is good and makes you wave your heads automatically. Though end piece sounds like a fusion of MI and James bond theme the song has something fresh to deliver. Shaan has done a commendable job and his voice sounds better than ever before.

Agar mein kahoon

Artists: Udit narayanan, Alka yagnik

Yes it is another conversational song from the team. Again Udit Narayanan and Alka Yagnik blend voices and prove to be a successful pair after “Jane kyon” from DCH. Their crystal clear pronunciation of innovative words of Javed Akthar elevates the song. The tune is as great and has a Tamil music feel in it. The background music and the percussions used gives the feel of traditional song of villagers of mountains and tribals. What makes this song as the song of this generation is the use of Guitar throughout the song. Really they have done an incredible job with guitar especially the solo piece in between the verse is out of world.

Kitni baatein

Artists: Hariharan, Sadhana sargam

This is an excellent pathos all the way with soulful tune, orchestration and divine voice of Hariharan and Sadhana Sargam. Hariharan has already proved his caliber in such songs and yet again does the same in this song with ease. Sadhana also excels in rendering the somberness through her voice. The usage of flute, violins and guitar are at its best enhancing the mood of the song. Picturisation decides the fate of this song with masses if done well it will definitely make people cry and make their hearts heavy but if not the 6 minute track is an additional interval time to have your cup of tea. But what I feel even without picturisation this song haunts me and makes my heart heavy. The lyrics is the main strength of the song.

Haan yahi rasta hai

Artist: Shankar Mahavdevan

Supposed to be the theme song of the movie. Shankar mahadevan solely carries the whole song on his shoulders. Strumming guitars and different beats used give the fire of inside the soldiers to achieve their Lakshya. A patriotic song with techno stuff. The humming and the orchestration in between the verses are the soul of this song. The song moves to tabla sometime and then comes back to percussions. The song has got a grand ending with rocky stuff given by electric guitars and slowly the beats transcends to military band beats which perfectly reveals the ambience of the song.

Kandhon se milte

Artists: Shankar mahadevan, Sonu nigam, Hariharan, Roop kumar rathod, Kunal ganjwala, and Vijay prakash

Another patriotic song and the tune itself has elements of patriotism in it and the lyrics adds more patriotic feel to the song. To me this is the best song of the album just because tune of the song changes for each and every line according to the meaning and feel of the https://lyrics. It breaks the usual format of such songs. The music at the background are added whenever needed and played subtly enhancing the power of lyrics and the voices chosen are the best in music and all of them being at their best. Especially I like hariharan’s “josh dil mein jagathe chalo”. The emotion reaches the peak at the end with the lines “hum jeetenge hum jeetenge”. I think his song is pictured while a group of soldiers’ moves towards the war place. An apt situational song going to rock with visuals.

Separation

This trio has always been good at instrumental tracks their instrumental version of “Har gali” song was simply mind blowing. In this track, they have gone to international standards. This track seems to be BG score of the movie when lovers separate. The piano and guitar starts the track simply and the “Kitni Baatein” tune is orchestrated with violins, which pours the somberness and the pain of separation into our soul. Ending of such tracks is very important but its ending is definite with piano playing the initial tune again.

Victory

Another instrumental track, which perfectly sounds for what it is i.e., war and victory. The main tune of the instrumental is that of “Haan yahi rasta” song. Track starts with trombos/ french horn/ trumpet (i am not sure about the instrument used) playing the tune, which when I picturise I could see soldiers standing in their position to start their war in the war field and then the track suddenly moves to different mood with percussions and gun shot sounds and violins playing serious notes, which I could visualize as war is going on and then violin playing the theme again in reduced tempo delivers the victory part of the track. Excellent track all the way.

Comparison: Dil Chahtha Hai Vs Lakshya

First of all, it is foolish to compare the music of DCH and Lakshya. DCH has a romantic theme presented in commercially acceptable manner. But Lakshya seems to be a serious movie dealing with soldiers how you can expect the same kind stuff in this album also. I don’t know why if a music director repeats his style of scoring they will blame and refuse it by saying it is a repetition and if he tries something new they will ignore it saying that it was not like his previous album. Both of the albums are best in its own way. This music I think is tailor made for the situations in the film and can be accepted by the masses only after watching the celluloid version. Till then only the music lovers and classes can accept and appreciate the freshness and the greatness of the album.

SEL - Music Album Maker – Film Music Composer

This album definitely reveals the new dimension of this trio. Previously all their albums had usual masala bollywood stuffs in the song and for instance you can fit a duet of one film into some other film which will not make any difference. That is what a music album maker does and that is what they were doing so far. But they have stepped forward to become a film music composer. A film music composer is one who composes the song for that particular situation and that song cannot be used in any other movie of any other situation. For that a musician should be gifted to get such scripts and good directors and Farhan akthar is one such script writer and director. You cannot think of fitting the songs of this album in any other movie.

The album is a master piece of SEL.
