Kumbakonam, a sacred town in Tamil Nadu is located 50 kilometers from Thanjavur and is accessible by road and railways. This is a land of temples and a birth place to many philosophical thinkers and spiritual gurus. The list of temples is never ending and would take at least 3-4 days to pay a visit to the most sacred temples. Adi Kumbeswara Temple of Lord Shiva along with Goddess Mangal Ambigai is considered the ruling diety of Kumbakonam. It is a huge temple with big prakarams(walls) and great sculpture. Next comes the Uppiliappan temple of Shri Venkateswara which is another huge and beautiful temple. Arulmigu Swaminatha Swami temple(Murugan koil), Patteeswaram Temple of Sri durga, Suriyan temple with all 9 planets in the temple premises, Sarangapani temple, Airavateswara temple, Nageshwara temple, Thiruvidaimarudur Mahalinga swami temple, Brahma temple(a rare temple), Someshwar temple, Kanjanur temple(Planet Venus is the main God here) and the list goes on and on. Budget to luxury stays are available at Kumbakonam. Best time to visit is between August and January.
