Jan 18th, 2009 Sunday afternoon, we landed up at Koshy's restaurant. We had to be in the city till 1.30 and it was too late to get back home and have lunch. So I suggested lunch at Koshy's to my husband and 5 yr old son. What a fateful decision!
The much touted restaurant, Jewel Box was almost full when we reached(wonder why people go there!). There was one table with about 8 chairs vacant and all other tables were occupied. I just stood around and nobody came to help. I hunted out one person and asked him if he could give us a table for 3. "No, all occupied." I asked him if we could wait at the bigger vacant table till some table became vacant. "No, wait outside".
Reached there - 1.15
Waited outside till - 1.35
Got inside and ordered food - 1.40
Got food - 2.30
I ordered Beef Stroganoff(there was the option of taking it with spaghetti or rice, and I chose rice), husband ordered chicken steak(on the waiter’s suggestion), and my son wanted Rotis and kabab. The food took so long to come that we started eating biscuits, which we had with us. Any question about when the food would come was met with indifference. The waiters were indifferent, to the point of being rude.
Finally the food came and we were shocked at the quantity. The beef and steak was for Rs.241/- each, and had about half the portion that we get in other places(Try out Sue’s place in Indiranagar and Juke Box in Koramangala). They have great steaks.
The beef tasted bad(it was not washed or was not cooked or was too old), they gave me spaghetti instead of the rice(when I complained, the waiter got me another plate of plain rice, without even offering an apology), the sauce tasted bad. It was served with vegetable(10-12 small pieces) that were just cooked without even salt. Overall the taste was very bad. I could not eat it, and just ate the plain rice with ketchup.(I usually don’t waste food and don’t like doing so. Here I was hungry and desperate and still could not eat.)
My husband also did not like the taste of the chicken steak, but it was edible and he was hungry. So he had about three-fourths of it. Not that the quantity was so big that he could not finish it, the taste was so bad.
The rotis were not warm and became rubbery in 10 mts.
The kebab was ok, though not very tasty.
Including taxes, the bill came to Rs.846 and we hardly got anything to eat. What little we got, was not actually edible.
I would never go back to Koshy’s and would love to warn you too.
