Yes, the movie belongs to Hrithik completely and he does show his 'Jadoo' with his presence in every scene, NO, he has proved it with his performance in every scene. So what if he reminds us of Tobey Maguire from Spiderman or the Kid in E.T.
After ages here is a performance which made my eyes wet. Hrithik, Thank God, is out of the MPKDH mode and is Acting in this movie. Kudos to dad to have trusted his son for such a role, and Hats off to the son for rising up to his Dad's expectation. It is impossible to even imagine some other than Hrithik in this role.
All right now about the movie, it is Different. Hey, wait but what are really different are the Theme and few characters and not the treatment. The story, about an Alien spaceship and the creature himself is definitely a new wine for fine Indian Movie Connoisseurs. Film buffs will definitely go for the theme and so will the kids. For the rest I am sure everybody in India wants to learn about this movie and know Jadoo, the sweet little Alien. Our version of Alien species is sweet and a little plastic. Nice blue colour skin and a yellow colour cloak makes him look very cute, but what about the expressions.
Jadoo does wink at times and speaks Hindi and English words with complete efficiency, let's not be too hard, so did the E.T and we liked it. The only part that I want to know is, was the movie about Rohit or the Alien and the Rohit both, because by the end of the movie you realise that the movie was completely for Rakesh Roshan's son's career to breathe easy again. The creature from the other world could have been given more scenes or may words to say or expressions to make.
Preity does an ok job at whatever was given to her. She performs the Heroines part of providing romance, glamour, beauty and jhatkas to the movie. Oops! Did I forget the dimples!
Rekha, is different than what she has done so far, otherwise the role has nothing new in it. She is good and balanced.
Rajat Bedi, my favorite, WHY? Well firstly, poor guy did nothing more than being nasty every no and then to the Mentally Challenged Rohit. Secondly, occasionally the only thing that would interest him other than troubling Rohit is Basket Ball, but only the Championships. Third point is that he loved to ride his bike, but only when the kids would on their Scooter. Lastly, his presence starts to get on to your nerves after a while, I am sure he knew that but still did the role. At times he is straight from Grease, at others he is the Indian villain who just had to be there to culminate all the elements of a movie i.e. Good, Bad and Ugly.
Kids, cute and more like kids. That is what I really liked about the Screenplay writers; it is a team of 5 people who have written the screenplay. They have really worked out the kiddie’s scenes very well. Kids do not overact and have behaved like kids of today's generation would do in real life. Full marks to Junior Sardaar for his performance and being funnier than Johnny Lever.
Johnny Lever, his introduction scene makes him sound so repetitive and boring. He is the same and will not change. Manages to pull a laughter here an there, that is it.
Mukesh Rishi, is definitely one of the noticeable performers of the movie. he sounds good, looks good and acts good too. Actually I must say that Rakesh Roshan has tried to depict our police officers as very intelligent and Next Generation cops with Mukesh Rishi and his knowledge level regarding aliens.
SO, what are we left with? The direction? It was good wherever Hrithik was present and
he is present through out the movie, and then what goes wrong? Well, nothing much but the second half. The first half sees the director laying the foundation of the story in a brilliant manner, from Scene One. The idea of contacting aliens and being able to send a message to them, a scientists belief that he can actually accomplish it and his death while trying to do so. Everything has been taken care of. How his wife comes to her hometown, and then raises the especially able child and how is the life of this child. He has handled every scene with great aplomb. However, not everything is perfect, so what he does is let lose the control when the Alien enters the story and relies on his Screenplay writers completely. They (screenplay writers) do a good job, though not very different in thinking again, but yes in alignment with the script. Now, Rakesh Roshan had all the chance to show off his directorial skills as this one had the Special effects, the crux of the story was building and the audience had to captured in this part to come back to the cinema hall.
Taking inspiration from subjects like E.T and Spiderman or Taken is not bad, but originality and novelty is required from a director's end too and not only from the artistes. No, he did not do so. He just did not think as imaginatively and differently as he did in the first half.
The movie has a story to watch out for and the performance and of course direction in some parts. It is a must watch if you have seen Oops and MPKDH.
This one definitely boasts of good hum able music and great cinematography.
Choreography is top class too, other than ''HailaHaila....'' number, but I guess even that was good for the tune. Farah Khan has done a fantastic job in ''Idhar chala...'' and so has Ganesh Hegde in ''It's magic....''. Out of all the songs, the one that has the singer’s contribution in maximum is ''its magic....'' Taz from Stereo Nation has done full justice to the situation, Hrithik's role and the composition.
Don't miss this if you liked Hrithik in MPKDH and though that he acted well (Oh Lord!), then it is a MUST WATCH!
