To begin with I WAS not a big King Kong fan. I had downloaded a 5 mins clip of this movie from the internet around 3 months back. The clip had these fight scenes between King Kong and a T-Rex which I thought I shouldn’t miss, so I had planned to see the movie from right then…..just for that fight scene…. But till today, I didn’t expect much from the movie …just some good graphics and cool fights…..that’s all. I was sooo WRONG!

The movie is much more than the strength, the power and the anger of a gigantic gorilla! Because, if it was, we wouldn’t fall in love with King Kong’s character by the end of the movie. And trust me…. You will fall in love with King Kong.

I went to see the movie with my friend. The movie started off and none of us in the audience had any clue of what was in stored for us. The passive beginning of the movie laid the perfect setting for the action filled drama ahead. Naomi watt’s character was a theatrical actor during the times of the great depression and had nothing much to work for. Searching for greener pastures she runs into Jack Black (a small time producer) who himself is trying to make it big. He wanted to shoot a movie in an island which was unknown to the world, which was believed to be a lost civilization, an island so remote that he believed that time had stopped in that place. However Jack’s past records didn’t earn much trust from his superiors at the studio. So he had to complete the project by crook, as a thief who stole and used the studios property. He also cheated Adrian Broody’s character (who was a script writer) to part take in a risky voyage.

The journey goes on with the film being shot and a budding romance between Naomi Watts and Adrian Broody’s character. However the captain later understands that there is a warrant out on Jack Black’s name and sets the ship back to New York. However it was too late. They had already reached the dreaded SKULL ISLAND. In the drama that followed- the natives kidnap Naomi watts and offer her as sacrifice to King Kong. King Kong accepts the offering and takes Watts away. The real movie begins here.

There is a very touching and rather funny scene when Naomi Watts tries to entertain King Kong by her theatrics. She does a fine job considering the fact that this was their first face to face encounter. Kong reciprocates by yawning and showing lack of interest and then trips Watts down to have a few laughs of his own. The scenes are directed such that you will start bonding with Kong along with Naomi. The special effect team has done a gr8 job to show these expressions accurately. Hats off to them.

Coming to the wrestling scene with the T-Rex. It was much more than what you can ever imagine. Amazing, awesome, funny, interesting, mind blowing and still much more. Nothing can get better than that. I won’t be able to do justice to that scene, so I won’t even try. It literally had the audience jumping off their seats. Kong saves Watts from the T-Rex (3-4 of them), injures himself but still persists on saving Watts. Kong by now had deeply bonded with Watts. On the other side the crew headed by Adrian Broody was in search of Watts. Amazing drama follows however there are some scenes that look fake; the green screen effect is pretty obvious in certain scenes. However due to more special effects in stored you may just want to forgive these.

Kong is drugged and taken to New York to perform in Broadway. As usual, Hell breaks loose and Kong runs creating havoc to find his love. There is a lot of destruction until he finally meets Naomi. And then there are a few precious moments of bonding between them again. It is such moments that make the film so special. Where the great Kong plays with snow along with Naomi. It really shows the other side of the animal which we can totally relate to. Like I said before the scenes are directed such that you will start bonding with Kong and you may just feel what Naomi’s character must be feeling on the screen.

The ending of the movie take place on top of the empire state building. A really touching scene. Kong climbs up the tower and sees his final sunrise with Naomi. He tells her by her own previous gesture that the sunrise is beautiful. Then come the fighter planes missioned to gun down Kong . After placing Naomi to safety, he faces the planes. Or at least tries to. However the planes were far too fast and too damaging. They fired rounds and rounds of bullets on Kong before he finally gave away. Still when Naomi came back to the scene he still stood up like a man in his bid to face the planes. However the planes had done what they had supposed to. After a small glimpse of Naomi, Kong falls off the tower and dies. At that very scene a kid in the theatre started crying her heart out – loudly. I am sure that all of us knew what was going on in her head because it was going on in all of ours too. She had the guts to do what we all were trying hard – not to.

I believe that no review can do any sort of justice to the movie. Simply because the movie cannot be put into words. I cannot script down the emotions I went through when I saw King Kong. It is something all of us can only experience. Please see the movie. It is not

An action movie that you might be expecting, it’s a great movie. Much better than its previous counterparts. Definitely worth a watch.
