Let me keep it crisp. The story telling is very poor and the director has not done his homework well. The movie is full of loopholes and misconnections. The talented actors sanjay & imran and the basic story could have been handled better, considering their ability and past performances.
The movie tells the story of a young, angst-filled man(Imran Khan) who kidnaps the daughter( Minissha Lamba) of a rich industrialist(Sanjay Dutt) to settle some old score. Instead of demanding a huge ransom, the kidnapper wants the businessman to play a stupid game with him. The kidnapper makes him do things like burgle a rival’s house, rescue a prisoner from a high-security jail, and even kill someone(the kidnapper fakes that too, what if he was shot on the head? -real nonsense).
The director doesn’t rely so much on logic as on convenience and not even tried to link properly the actors being shown to the characters they convey. The script has to be taut and the plot must unfold in such a way that the viewer is able to piece together the jigsaw and connect the dots by the end. But what you come across in ‘Kidnap’ are a lot of missing pieces and loose ends. Sanjay Dutt running hay wire in Mumbai city with his merc, then the stolen one which he races into a boat and then a nice bike being driven on the railway station and track, nothing attracted the police! Then in another scene Sajay dutt is made prisoner by Imran khan and suddenly the scene shows Sanjay Dutt handcuffed. Its an old saying “there is no questions asked in stories”, even then this much?!?!
There is one nice “James Bond Casino Royale” style chase in which Imran khan is chased by Sanjay Dutt. Very well executed, but still cant believe that Pott Bellyed Sanjay can do that. If it has been Rahul Dev who plays a detective agent, it would have been much better and more believable.
Another commendable job in the movie is the photography, quite soothing and realistic backgrounds, esp the lake song of minisha!
The captive Minissha Lamba fashionably dressed in clothes so skimpy and sexy, that they keep distracting the kidnapper Imran Khan time and again. And as a viewer, you just enjoy the scene of her skin show. Throughout her captivity, Minissha’s character is undeviatingly focused on her dresses, be them cleavage-flaunting gowns or hot pants with shimmering belly chains to boot and even the song sequence in which she is nearly doing a “mandagni” style show off in a waterfall/lake. I don’t know whether she is got any acting talent, leave alone the skin show. May be she should be tested with a good character role.
Given all that Imran’s performance was neat and scores above all. No nonsense, straight expressions, aggressiveness along with the boyish charm, he has done justice to the role. Sanjay could have been used some more as he has his command as a business tycoon was good for the movie.
Nothing much to say about the music, very ordinary. The title track is just fine, that is all.
End of the day the truth is I slept towards the end of the movie . I did not want to pull my hair(anyway I am loosing it), did not want to hurl my caramel popcorn to the screen and waste it, cant howl/scream(trying to be a gentleman). frustrating
If you miss this movie don’t be disappointed!
