Here is yet another masterpiece by Rajkumar Santoshi. I personally, have been a great fan of his since Damini [I have not seen Ghayal] .Khakee is a very heavy, hard hitting and an action packed movie. But I assure you that it won’t disappoint you.
It’s a story about cops- all kinds of cops- sincere, unsuccessful, bindaas , fearless and funny! The biggest attraction of the movie – Amitabh Bachhan plays D.C.P Anant Srivastav , who, even after giving 30 years of his life to the police department, has not got even a single opportunity to prove his worth as a police officer. He is considered a filature and an unsuccessful cop.
Next comes Inspector Shekhar Verma [Akshay Kumar] . He is a happy go lucky fellow, with no conscience and quality as a police inspector. Inspector Ashwin [Tusshar Kapoor] is the youngest cop and has the aspiration to become an honest police officer. He is an absolutely no nonsense person. The other two cops are Malhar and Kamlesh.
The movie starts with Dr. Iqbal Ansari [Atul Kulkarni] being arrested because a load of weapons are found in his house in Chandangarh in Maharashtra near Mumbai. He is declared an agent of the ISI. He has to be presented in the court of Mumbai and so there is this task of bringing him to Mumbai from Chandangarh. 8 officers who first try to do this are all killed brutally. So, this group of five officers[as mentioned above] are given this job.
There is Angale[ Ajay Devgan] a very mysterious character who is following these people every single second. Once the cops reach Chandangarh , Mahalaxmi [Aishwarya Rai] who has some information about the terrorists , joins the group. Will they be able to bring Ansari to Mumbai?
The ending may seem predictable, but it is not. There are some amazing twists and turns. And yes, watch out for the climax . Its just superb, something you can expect only from Rajkumar Santoshi..
Coming to performances, everybody is excellent and do full justice to their roles. Amitabh Bachhan gives a stellar performance. Akshay Kumar delivers his best performance till date – a combination of a funny ,bad but nice, irresponsible but responsible person .Aishwarya is OK and looks horrible throughout the movie in her small but somewhat important role. Ajay Devgan, as usual is remarkable in his second negative role after Deewangee. The real piece of surprise is TUSSHAR KAPOOR!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, he is too good. Watch out for him. The supporting cast is also worth a mention , especially Tanuja [Ansari’s mother].
Technically , the direction is splendid. Such movies, usually do not keep you glued to the screen after some time, but Khakee, maintains the grip throughout the 3 hours .The editing is crisp, cinematography is good but the music is just average.
The film leaves you spell bounded when you leave the hall. It makes you realize, as a citizen, how foolish and blind we are. The movie brings out some of the real truths of our society, about which , though we know, don’t do anything about it. All because of some small selfishness inside the hearts of all of us.
All in all ,a complete paisa vasool. Go watch it, its worth spending your time on.{its still on the theatres]
