A memorable trip to Kaziranga National Park. It was middle
of May ,1968. I was employed by the State Bank of India,Dimapur Nagaland. I had several friends in Jorhat Assam, Gauhati, Tinsukia as well as dozens of friends in Nagaland as well as Manipur. Myself and three of my friends started from Dimapur and stayed in Jorhat with the then
Manager of the State Bank of India for over night. We proceeded to Kaziranga by our jeep (4wheel drive).Stayed at the hotel. The steak dinner we had ordered was served in
european style was most appreciated. We headed for the safari the following day. I believe it was almost 4 hours
on the top of an Elephant. There were at least half a dozen elephants travelling through the wilderness carrying average
five passengers each.On the trail we could see the wild life in its natural habitat, especially Rhinos, hipos, giraffs etc.etc. We did not have much luck in locating a tiger at all. On our way up the hill by our jeep, we had
witnessed an accident. It was a deer who lost its balance
descending a hill had fallen down the creek, several feet
below us. Also on our return trip back to Nagaland from Jorhat (Assam), we sighted a single elephant in the wilderness. We had this sighting almost 200 yards ahead of us and we managed to turn around on that narrow road and drove a few miles and stayed a while until the road started picking up traffic. However, The Kaziranga trip was owesom.
