In my opinion, KJ wanted to make a masterpiece, but ended up with a three hour soap opera. Dev is a regurgitation of every character SRK has ever played. I don't think the man can do bitter. Most of time he was on screen, I wanted to laugh out loud because his character is rather a parody of bitter than bitter itself.

Rani never ceases to amaze me - she is just brilliant. As Maya, you can feel the sadness reflected in her eyes through the screen. Her emotional coldness towards Rishi is heartbreaking.

Preity is adequate as Rhea although I don't think she has much to do except look pretty and act like a completely selfish cow who virtually ignores her family in pursuit of her career.

Abhishek pleasantly surprises me as Rishi and almost steals the show (that honour belongs to his dad). This guy, whom I had previously dismissed as a bland Big B wannabe just keeps getting better - not quite at the level his dad is - but good nonetheless. The two share an irresistible chemistry carried on from Bunty aur Babli. Hope to see them together again in future.

Big B is absolutely fantastic as Rishi's Lathario father. There isn't words to describe this man's brilliance on screen. Kirron Kher does a great job as SRK's mom and Arjun is okay as Preity's yummy boss who obviously has the hots for her.

Anyway, the movie runs on for far too long, becomes overmelodramatic and just tries too hard. It's saving grace is the music, some performances and the cinematography. Not KJ's best effort - still much better than other movies exploring the same theme.
