At the age of 67 years if someone can pull off this kind of character is none other than Rajnikanth and he did it with his impeccable style and dialog. In one of the dialog he says'Main kala hu, mai yam hu', if I heard this dialog from someone else it should sound funny but when it comes to Rajni it sounds different. Through out the movie he was mostly wearing a black kurta and black dhoti that too seems a style statement, he doesn't need any fancy designer wear to look awesome.
The movie is based on Mumbai famous slum area Dharavi, where a politician named Hari played by Nana Patekar wants to build new project over there for his campaign'Clean and Clear City'. Kaala brought up in Dharavi, he lives with his wife and kids, he is a middle age man and a born leader for the people over there. The movie revolves around his protest against this campaign. Huma Qureshi played the role a NGO member who is also the old love of Kaala, she ws initially trying to convince Dharavi people for this campaign without knowing Hari's(Nana Patekar) exact motive.
In one sceene Kaala was beating Hari's man all alone over Bandra-Worli sea link with a black umbrella and it is raining, only one man can make it believable and that's none other Rajnikanth, he can survive taking bullet through his heart. Movie ends with power pact dialog'Jamin haaq hai humara'.
All together it's a power pact for Rajni fans.
