Label Sony BMG
Soham makes his debut as a director with Kaal, produced by Karan johar and Shah Rukh Khan. Kaal is said to be a thriller with the theme of animal preservation. One can expect the songs to be funky with lots of weird sounds, loops and loads of rip off from foreign tracks like Desert Forest, Mortal Komat theme etc etc etc……….
The first track which also happens to be my favourite one in this album is Tauba Tauba which is currently being aired in all channels. This track made me buy…err… download this album. The song starts with some weird sound followed by Kunal’s vocals ‘O Mahiya’ and some English https://lyrics. The song then gains momentum with Sunidi Chauhan and Rich Sharma’s recitation in Punjabi. The song also has a qawali twist with Sonu nigam rendering. This one is like a fusion track with Punjabi, English (Feel the fire, my desire, Take me higher, Soniye) and Qawali mixed in a single track. We can get to hear different type of instruments…traditional dholaks, funky percussions, tablas and others. The tune is catchy, especially the qawali one!
The ‘Chaiyaa Chaiyaa’ pair Shah Rukh Khan and Malaika Arora have once again teamed up to give us another rocking number Kaal Dhamal. The tune is extremely Peppy, instantly likeable. Only thing which irritates me is Ravi “rags” Khote’s rap. There are lots of English lyrics here too.
It seems Kunal Ganjawala is likely to win more awards this year too! He is well supported by carasila and salim. It will be interesting to see how the song is picturised, and is surely going to rule the charts in coming weeks. This track also has a remix version The Tiger Mix by Bobby Friction and Infinite Scale which is also equally good.
Next up is Nasaa Nasaa composed and written by Anand Raj Anand, with Sonu and Sunidi rendering. If I have to describe this song in one word it will be TORTURE.
It makes me wonder what the makers had in their mind while composing this track, it a mix of bhangra, bollywood tune and overdose of English https://lyrics. Unlike Tauba Tauba this experiment flops. Vocals from the singers are equally bad. Don’t want to experience 5.07 minutes of torture again. Skip!
Ankiya Teriya Ve is written, composed and sung by Kailash Kher. The track starts off very well; the tune is extremely good and kailash rocks! The female singer has given some amazing vocals, perhaps the song should have been named ‘eye of the tiger’.
A nice sufi-pop fusion and should be liked by all.
Next comes Jungle Mix, seems to be an erotic track with some scary elements.
Lots of loops, jungle beats, drums-bongo type, but this song certainly seems to be a rip off. Vocals from Vijay Prakash, caralisa and jeanee are great, they have improvised very well.
The album ends with Dharma Mix. This song is essentially a remix track. It comprises of songs such as Pretty Woman, Bole Chudiya, Shava Shava and Koi Mil Gaya. Just want to tell salim Suleiman a very good try!
Kaal has some chartbuster numbers like kaal dhamal and tauba tauba, but it fails in melody department, but the subject soham deals with requires no melody.
Kaal is strictly an average album, if you like the hip hop, remix, jungle beats stuff, this album is for you, and if you prefer melody, soft romantic numbers I am afraid this album might disappoint you! I liked the album, since it has some interesting tracks like Jungle Mix and Tauba Tauba.
